Inclusion of marginalised young peoplePreventing racism and discrimination

Objectives

The Play4Inclusion youth exchange is rooted in the urgent need to address racism, intolerance, and discrimination that many marginalized young people continue to face in their daily lives. Social obstacles, exclusion from community activities, and negative stereotypes create barriers to their adaptation, integration, and personal growth. Violent incidents and discriminatory practices based on race, ethnicity, or social background spread division rather than solidarity, creating challenges for social cohesion in Europe. In this context, youth work has a central role to play, offering spaces for dialogue, empowerment, and community building. Partner organisations, together with young stakeholders, have therefore come together to design a program that uses sport as a tool for inclusion, equality, and peacebuilding, creating tangible opportunities for marginalized youth to take an active role in society. Through Play4Inclusion, young people with fewer opportunities will participate in intercultural and sporting activities that promote tolerance, cooperation, and respect. They will not only strengthen their own self-confidence and skills but will also contribute to creating more inclusive communities. Sport, combined with non-formal education, provides a safe and engaging method for bringing young people together, bridging cultural divides, and promoting shared values. The objectives of this youth exchange are: - To promote the international visibility and participation of young people with fewer opportunities, creating space for cooperation and the exchange of experiences across different countries. - To develop innovative methodologies and practices in youth work for the social inclusion of marginalized groups through sporting activities and non-formal learning. - To encourage healthy lifestyles and active participation in sport, linking physical activity with equality, teamwork, and respect between nationalities and cultures. - To strengthen cooperation networks among youth organisations, enabling the exchange of good practices, methods, and guidelines that support inclusive youth work across Europe. - To promote an innovative and open society where all young people, regardless of their background, can participate equally and benefit from solidarity, inclusion, and respect. - To enhance the capacity of organisations working with marginalized youth, building on national experiences while sharing them internationally. - To combat discrimination, racism, and hate speech by fostering tolerance, equality, and intercultural dialogue through sports events, workshops, and debates. The youth exchange will serve as a laboratory for testing and applying these objectives in practice. Through non-formal education methods such as energizers, world café sessions, simulations, role play, debates, intercultural nights, and cultural visits, participants will gain tools and competences for building inclusive communities. From the perspective of youth work, the project will empower young people to become active agents of change rather than passive observers. It will support the development of personal and social competences, leadership skills, and critical thinking, while also giving space for peer-to-peer learning between newcomers to Erasmus+ and more experienced participants. By placing marginalized youth at the centre of activities, Play4Inclusion responds directly to their needs while also challenging stereotypes and building bridges between different groups. Finally, the project objectives are fully aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme (Key Action 1), particularly in terms of promoting inclusion and diversity, supporting active citizenship, and fostering healthy lifestyles. All seven partner organisations bring specific experience in working with youth with fewer opportunities, and each has committed to including three such participants in their national group. Together, they will ensure that Play4Inclusion becomes both a meaningful learning experience for 42 participants and a wider contribution to building open, inclusive, and democratic societies.
