"Digital Chaos" is a European Union Youth Exchange Project that aims to practically demonstrate the difference between disinformation and misinformation. Through this project, young participants will come together to learn how to protect themselves from disinformation and access reliable information through various workshops and activities. One of our primary objectives is to help young people question false information they encounter in the digital world, develop critical thinking skills, and cultivate the habit of verifying news accuracy. A study conducted in 2018 revealed that false information spreads six times faster on social media compared to accurate information. This phenomenon is attributed to the emotional, surprising, and engaging nature of misinformation, which encourages rapid sharing. Another study from 2022 found that a significant portion of social media users accept the information they see as true without questioning it. This further exacerbates the impact of disinformation. Through our workshops, participants will enhance their ability to identify rapidly spreading false information and access reliable sources, making them more conscious individuals in the digital space. In recent years, the advancement of artificial intelligence has led to the emergence of many new applications. One notable example is the technology that generates fake videos and images using the faces and voices of famous or well-known individuals. According to a report published in 2020, the use of such AI-based applications increased by more than 100% compared to 2019, reaching 14,678, and this number continues to grow each year. A significant rise has been observed in the number of AI-based applications, particularly in the mobile application market. Since 2020, the number of applications containing the term "AI" has increased by 1,033%. Moreover, the global AI market, valued at $86.9 billion in 2022, is projected to reach $407 billion by 2027. This growth highlights the rapid adoption of AI applications and their impact across various sectors. This also clearly indicates how AI-driven disinformation is expected to rise in the future. To combat misinformation, our expert trainers will guide young participants on AI-driven disinformation and raise their awareness through specialized workshops. Looking ahead, we aim to ensure that young people become conscious individuals in both their professional and personal lives. By making them more resilient to disinformation, we strive to cultivate a generation with strong digital literacy skills and a research-oriented mindset. The Kültür ve Medeniyet Association manages the coordination of this project, which will involve 44 participants from 4 different countries and be held in Ankara. "Digital Chaos" seeks to enhance young people's ability to access accurate information, develop critical thinking, and responsibly share knowledge in an era of increasing information pollution. Through this, we aim to contribute to the creation of a more informed society. Our main goal is to enhance young people's knowledge and skills while improving the quality of youth work in our partner organizations. Participants will gain new experiences through workshops, analyze the impact of disinformation, and apply their learning to develop a broader perspective. The project trainers are young volunteers with national and international experience. Together with our partner organizations, we aim to establish a well-structured and impactful project.
