Objectives

“One Plus One Greater Than Two – Young Volunteering for Greater Impact” youth exchange focuses on volunteering, one of the most powerful tools of youth work. Volunteering offers young people opportunities for personal development, skill acquisition, and a sense of belonging, while also creating tangible social impacts at both local and European levels. However, despite its positive outcomes, participation rates in volunteering remain below the desired level. The increase in volunteer engagement during times of disasters and crises clearly demonstrates young people’s sensitivity and potential in addressing societal challenges. Nevertheless, the lack of visibility of volunteering opportunities and the absence of clear pathways for engagement in areas such as education, environment, health, and social solidarity prevent this potential from becoming sustainable. Research conducted at the European level (EU Youth Report 2022; Eurobarometer 2022) confirms this picture, showing that while young people are sensitive to social issues, the lack of mechanisms supporting regular volunteering keeps participation rates limited. Therefore, the project aims to strengthen volunteering not as an activity confined to times of crisis, but as a culture that becomes a natural part of everyday life. Based on identified needs, the project seeks to contribute to making volunteering more visible and accessible; to empower young people on their path to active citizenship; and to help them integrate volunteering as an inseparable element of their daily lives. The backbone of the program will be scenario-based and problem-solving “Solution Room” sessions. Through these sessions, young participants will directly experience the process, develop proposals on volunteering, and become active actors in problem-solving mechanisms. In addition, through the experience-sharing of a long-time volunteer and the contribution of a LÖSEV (Foundation for Children with Leukemia) representative, young people will be able to observe the social impacts of volunteering from different perspectives. - The objectives of our project, designed with a youth work approach, are: To develop a sustainable culture of volunteering among young people, To make volunteering opportunities visible in various fields such as education, environment, health, and social solidarity, To generate proposals for addressing societal challenges through a volunteering-based perspective using the “Solution Room” method, To transform the ideas generated during the project into concrete outputs through slogans and posters, To evaluate volunteering not only as “unpaid labor,” but also as a contribution to young people’s personal and social development, To strengthen the link between volunteering and personal development, social skills, and employability, To help participants discover in which fields and how they can engage in volunteering, To increase inclusiveness by facilitating access to volunteering processes for young people with fewer opportunities, To disseminate and make visible both national and international volunteering opportunities, To develop and make accessible opportunities for digital volunteering, To enable young people to directly experience the tangible impacts of volunteering through the contributions of experienced volunteers, To help young people recognize the social impacts of volunteering from an institutional perspective through the knowledge and experience shared by a LÖSEV representative, To support the development of transversal skills such as solidarity, communication, problem-solving, media literacy, and entrepreneurship among participants, To address the gap in awareness and participation regarding volunteering and European mobility opportunities among young people, To ensure the dissemination and sustainability of project results through digital channels, a volunteering kit, blog posts, podcasts, and social media, To provide a learning and participation experience in line with Erasmus+ priorities of inclusion, active citizenship, green transition, digital transition, and intercultural learning.
