Objectives

Our project aims to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and methods that sighted and visually impaired youth workers need when working with visually impaired young people, while also providing innovative tools for inclusive youth work. Strengthening inclusivity and accessibility in the field of youth will both increase the participation of visually impaired young people in social life and improve the professional skills of youth workers. Visually impaired young people still face barriers in accessing education, culture, and social activities. In many events, these individuals are unable to play an active role and often remain only as listeners. In particular, event materials not being designed in a way that is accessible to the visually impaired, spatial barriers that hinder independent movement, difficulties in ensuring equal access to information and participating in presentations limit their active participation in social life. These problems make the need for inclusive youth work even more apparent. Therefore, it is necessary to meet the needs of youth workers, who are important actors in youth work, in this regard and to develop their professional competencies. Through the activities we will carry out with our project, we will ensure that youth workers develop their skills in working with visually impaired young people and their competencies in carrying out activities that include visually impaired young people using the right methods and tools. Based on this, we plan to achieve the following goals through the activities we will carry out. -Empowering youth workers who are sighted and visually impaired to gain competence in designing inclusive programs, developing accessible materials, communicating effectively with visually impaired youth, and utilizing technological tools, -Raising awareness on disability, accessibility, and inclusion, -Developing concrete tools, methods, and model proposals that can be applied in the field of youth work, -Sharing best practices with participants from different countries, thereby enabling the transfer of experience on an international scale, -Disseminating project outputs to reach a wider audience with the knowledge and experience gained, -Developing the professional skills of youth workers with visual impairments, breaking down social prejudices, and enabling them to improve themselves in the areas of self-advocacy and communication. -Increasing youth workers' experience in working with visually impaired youth, thereby encouraging them to adopt a more inclusive approach. Our project will thus lay the groundwork for more inclusive youth work by meeting the needs of both visually impaired young people and youth workers. In the long term, this project will contribute to the spread of inclusive practices in the field of youth, breaking stereotypes about disability in society, and ensuring accessibility in all areas. Enriched by international collaborations, this process will enable youth workers to discover different perspectives while also supporting the development of a shared culture of inclusive approaches.
