Objectives

By implementing Theatre of Change YE, we want to strengthen youth participation and inclusion by using applied theatre (e.g., forum theatre, storytelling, role-play) as a youth work method. The exchange will create a safe, supportive, non-formal learning environment where young people—especially those with fewer opportunities—can explore real-life challenges, express themselves, and turn their experiences into concrete local initiatives after the mobility. Project objectives: 1. Use theatre as a participatory youth work tool for social change Enable young people to explore social issues that affect their lives through applied theatre methods (such as forum theatre, storytelling, improvisation, and role-play). By working with embodied, creative, and experiential approaches, participants will analyse real-life situations of exclusion, inequality, and marginalisation, and rehearse alternative responses. Theatre will be used not as a performance goal, but as a youth work methodology that supports reflection, dialogue, empowerment, and collective problem-solving. 2. Empower young people to express themselves and be heard Strengthen self-confidence, communication, and emotional expression by creating a safe space where young people can share experiences, experiment with roles, and communicate messages in non-verbal and verbal ways, respecting different comfort levels and abilities. 3. Build competences for participation and active citizenship Equip participants with practical skills to engage in democratic and community processes, including critical thinking, dialogue, cooperation, facilitation basics, and collective decision-making, enabling them to contribute actively in youth initiatives and local civic life. 4. Ensure inclusive and barrier-aware participation in youth work Apply inclusive youth work practices that enable the meaningful participation of young people with fewer opportunities by offering flexible roles, peer support, accessible communication, and emotional safety, ensuring that all participants can engage according to their needs and capacities. 5. Strengthen intercultural learning and solidarity Promote intercultural understanding and empathy through international teamwork and shared creative processes, helping young people challenge stereotypes, value diversity, and build respectful relationships across cultural and social backgrounds. 6. Translate learning into sustainable local youth action Support participants and partner organisations to transfer theatre-based methods into local follow-up activities, such as workshops, small showcases, or community dialogues, thereby embedding the project’s approach into ongoing youth work practice.
