Objectives

Trust Me If You Dare – Navigating Truth in the Age of AI Fakery aims to respond to a growing challenge in youth work: young people are increasingly exposed to AI-generated fake content, such as deepfakes, manipulated images and videos, fake profiles, and misleading narratives that look real and spread fast through social media. Many young people rely on online information for social interaction, decision-making, and civic engagement, yet lack safe spaces and practical tools to critically reflect on what they see. From a youth work perspective, this creates an urgent need for non-formal learning approaches that build critical awareness, resilience, and responsibility in digital environments. The main objective of the project is to empower young people to navigate the digital world safely and critically by strengthening their media literacy, critical thinking, and ethical awareness related to artificial intelligence and misinformation. Through participatory, non-formal education methods, the project helps young people understand how AI fakery works, why it is convincing, and how it can influence opinions, emotions, and democratic processes. Learning is practical and experience-based, allowing participants to analyse real-life examples and apply strategies they can use in everyday digital situations. A second key objective is to strengthen active youth participation and peer learning. Young people are involved as co-creators of the programme, co-leaders of activities, and producers of awareness materials. By working in international teams, facilitating workshops, and creating shared outputs, participants develop communication skills, self-confidence, and a sense of responsibility for their digital behaviour and its impact on others. The project also aims to enhance intercultural learning and European awareness. By bringing together young people from different countries and backgrounds, participants explore how trust, media, and misinformation are experienced differently across societies, while recognising these challenges as shared European issues. This strengthens empathy, openness, and a sense of belonging to a common European space. In line with Erasmus+ priorities, the project places strong emphasis on inclusion and equal access. Young people with fewer opportunities are actively reached, supported through reinforced mentoring, and included in barrier-free learning environments. This ensures that critical digital competences are not limited to already privileged groups. Finally, the project aims to ensure sustainable impact beyond the exchange. Through concrete outputs, local follow-up activities, and youth-led dissemination, participants are supported to act as multipliers in their communities. From a youth work perspective, Trust Me If You Dare contributes to higher-quality youth work practice by equipping young people with lifelong competences for digital transformation, democratic participation, and responsible citizenship.
