SUCCEED - Sustainable Ecotourism & Entrepreneurship Development is a Youth Exchange designed to act as a stepping stone for youth employability by combining two of the most critical European priorities: the Green Deal and Digital Transition. At its core, the project addresses a paradox found across our partner countries: while rural regions across multiple EU countries possess immense natural beauty and tourism potential, the young people living there often face high unemployment rates and a lack of economic prospects, resulting in a 'brain drain' phenomena which drives them towards major cities or other countries. Our primary objective is to reverse this narrative and combat the increased trend of rising Youth Unemployment numbers within our partner countries, which are above EU averages. We aim to prove to 40 young people, specifically targeting NEETS individuals and those from rural backgrounds, that their local environment should not be treated only as scenic background, but a viable economic asset through sustainable conservation and ecotourism practices. Over the course of our 9 day exchange in Neumarkt, Austria, we will transform the abstract concepts of the "Green Economy" into concrete, actionable business skills by using exclusively non-formal learning methods. From the perspective of youth work practice, our approach moves beyond simple awareness raising. We are equipping young people with the Green Competence Framework required to build a career in it and benefit from the opportunities brought through the Green Deal. We achieve this by simulating a business incubator environment with a curriculum built around the Twin Transition - combining sustainability with digital skills. Participants will not only learn how to design a low-impact tourism product/service, but also how to market it digitally through vlogging and social media storytelling, increasingly relevant in the modern labor market. To realize these learning outcomes, the project methodology relies on Experiential Learning and Living Case Studies. We believe that entrepreneurship cannot be learned only in a seminar room. Therefore, the region of Murau will serve as living example with conduction of our sessions in the field, and treating every fieldtrip as a business lesson. The hike to the Zirbitzkogel peak will be both a physical challenge and a lesson in Risk Assessment and Logistics, facilitated with the help of the Zirbitzkogelhutte management team. Participants will analyze the supply chains required to run the mountain hut at the summit, understanding the challenges of off-grid hospitality. Similarly, our visit to Jera am Furtnerteich will also serve as a study in the Blue Economy, where participants will learn with the help of the owners about balancing seasonality with aquatic ecosystem protection. We will also address the macro-level challenges of tourism through dialogues with the Hallstatt Township. By engaging with municipal representatives in a UNESCO World Heritage site, participants will discover the balance between Overtourism and Community Identity, learning that a successful green business must respect local residents as much as it respects profit margins. A central objective of SUCCEED is Social Inclusion through Economic Empowerment. We have structured the participant flow to mix young people with entrepreneurial backgrounds with those facing long-term unemployment or displacement. By working in mixed teams to create their Green Business Model Canvas, we are encouraging a peer-mentoring dynamic. The NEET participants gain confidence and professional habits from their peers, while the more experienced participants gain a deeper 'thinking outside the box' perspective. This is further reinforced by our collaboration with the Wirtschaftskammer Österreich and the Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs programme. We aim to provide a concrete "Step 2" for our participants, ensuring that the project serves as a bridge to real-world vocational opportunities rather than a standalone introductory experience. Furthermore, we aim to create a permanent shift in behaviors regarding Sustainable Mobility. By enforcing a Green Travel rule with utilizing the European rail network and NightJet connections, we are both reducing the project's carbon footprint and proving the viability of ground travel in Europe. Participants experience firsthand that international connectivity does not require flights, a lesson that directly supports the EU’s aim of double high-speed rail traffic by 2030. Finally, the project aims to trigger a community 'Ripple Effect' by tasking participants with organizing their own local green micro-events, ensuring that learning outcomes are applied, tested, and validated in the real world through our Dissemination Campaign.
