ARTEMIS aims to strengthen the role of youth work as a safe and empowering space for young women with migration or second-generation backgrounds who face social barriers in expressing themselves confidently and participating actively in society. From a youth work practice perspective, the project seeks to create a structured, non-formal learning environment where emotional awareness, self-confidence, and intercultural cooperation are developed through participatory and arts-based methods. Youth workers from Lernpoint (Austria) and Junitiv e.V. (Germany) have observed recurring challenges among young women in their communities: hesitation to speak in group settings, difficulty expressing emotions openly, limited experience in intercultural collaboration, and reduced access to international mobility. ARTEMIS addresses these practical challenges through a 10-day Youth Exchange that combines creative expression, reflection, and structured competence recognition. The core objectives of the project are: To strengthen self-confidence and active participation of young women in group and intercultural settings through arts-based non-formal learning methods. To improve participants’ ability to identify and express emotions in a constructive and conscious way, contributing to their emotional well-being and resilience. To foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding between Austrian and German participants through collaborative group work. To support the meaningful inclusion of at least 16 participants with fewer opportunities by providing reinforced mentoring and structured preparation. To enable participants to co-create one joint artistic output that symbolises intercultural sisterhood and shared experiences. By implementing ARTEMIS, we aim to demonstrate how youth work can provide not only mobility experiences but structured developmental processes that empower young women to participate more actively and confidently in their communities. ARTEMIS goes beyond symbolic artistic expression by transforming creative production into a structured empowerment process, resulting in a visible and transferable exhibition model that can be replicated in future youth work contexts.
