Objectives

Through the BELONG: Belonging, Equality, Lived diversity, Opportunity, Networks for Growth project, we aim to strengthen the capacity of youth workers to respond meaningfully to increasing cultural, ethnic and social diversity in their local communities, with a specific focus on inclusion, belonging and equal participation of young people with fewer opportunities (FO). As cities like Graz and partner contexts across Europe become more diverse, youth workers are increasingly confronted with complex realities linked to migration, discrimination, social exclusion, identity, and unequal access to opportunities. However, many lack practical tools, shared frameworks and confidence to address these challenges in an intentional, inclusive and empowering way. From a youth work practice perspective, the project seeks to move beyond abstract discussions on diversity and inclusion and instead focus on lived diversity: real experiences, barriers and strengths of young people with migrant backgrounds, refugees, ethnic minorities and other marginalised groups. By embedding at least one FO youth worker in each national team, BELONG ensures that inclusion is not treated as a theoretical concept but as a core structural principle that informs all learning processes. The general aims of the project are to: -Increase youth workers’ competencies in inclusive, anti-discriminatory and intercultural youth work practices. -Equip youth workers with practical methods to address exclusion, stereotypes and structural barriers in their daily work. -Foster peer learning and cross-border exchange of good practices among youth workers from diverse European contexts. -Support the co-creation of a practical, accessible Youth Work for All Toolkit grounded in real challenges faced by young people with fewer opportunities. -Encourage youth workers to act as multipliers and change agents within their organisations and local communities.
