This project aims to enhance the quality and impact of youth work through sustainability education, providing youth workers with the necessary tools, methodologies, and resources to facilitate effective and engaging learning experiences on sustainability. The initiative seeks to address gaps in youth work practice by integrating game-based educational tools and non-formal learning approaches into sustainability education, ensuring that youth workers can equip young people with the knowledge, skills, and motivation needed to contribute to a more sustainable future. PROBLEM STATEMENT Sustainability remains a pressing challenge for young people, yet many youth workers struggle to translate theoretical knowledge into meaningful action. Traditional environmental education often lacks interactive and solution-oriented methods, leaving young people disengaged and uninspired. Research highlights that while young people express high levels of concern for environmental issues, they often feel powerless in making a difference due to a lack of clear, accessible strategies for action. Youth workers play a critical role in shaping young people’s understanding of sustainability, yet many lack the tools and methodologies to make sustainability education practical, engaging, and action-driven. Despite the wealth of information available, youth workers need structured, interactive, and ready-to-use educational tools to empower young people effectively. Without a shift towards experiential, participatory, and gamified learning, sustainability education risks remaining abstract, failing to drive real-world impact. OUR SOLUTION This project provides youth workers with two proven educational tools—SDGs Intelligence Box and Green Quest Simulation—that make sustainability learning interactive, problem-solving oriented, and applicable. The initiative will train youth workers in these tools, allowing them to integrate game-based, experiential, and participatory learning into their daily work. Through this project, youth workers will: - Gain expertise in game-based methodologies that foster active participation. - Learn practical ways to introduce sustainability concepts to young people. - Build skills in facilitating discussions on sustainability challenges. - Explore methods to translate learning into action, ensuring young people develop solutions to real-world environmental issues. OBJECTIVES FROM A YOUTH WORK PERSPECTIVE 1. Strengthen youth workers’ competences in sustainability education, equipping them with interactive and game-based tools that make learning engaging and action-oriented. 2. Increase youth workers’ capacity to facilitate participatory sustainability workshops, ensuring young people can understand, analyze, and respond to sustainability challenges. 3. Provide youth workers with practical tools, such as SDGs Intelligence Box and Green Quest Simulation, that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. 4. Enable youth workers to apply non-formal education methodologies effectively in sustainability education. 5. Promote peer learning and exchange of best practices, strengthening youth workers' ability to engage young people in sustainability-focused activities. 6. Develop youth workers’ skills in guiding young people toward action-oriented sustainability solutions, ensuring that learning leads to concrete real-world impact. 7. Establish a Sustainability Education Academy, an online hub where youth workers can access educational materials, tools, and additional tested resources beyond the project’s lifetime. 8. Create long-term impact by supporting youth workers in designing and delivering sustainability education initiatives within their organizations and local communities.
