For several years now, young people at the Maison de Jeunes l’Aventure (Belgium) have been reflecting on gender inequalities, both during EVRAS evenings and through the Horizon Mixité project. These discussions have enabled them to realise that girls and boys are not always treated equally, whether at school, in sport or in everyday life. For example, they have noticed that certain school options are still very gendered, that certain sports are perceived as ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’, and that judgements about appearance or behaviour can affect self-confidence and individual choices. During initial discussions with Romanian and Turkish partners, it became apparent that their young people had made similar observations. This convergence motivated the three groups to work together: to compare their realities, identify what they have in common and what differs, and collectively reflect on ways to deconstruct these stereotypes and promote equality. To give concrete form to these reflections, the young people chose to create a joint magazine, combining interviews, reports, comics, photos, surveys, etc. This magazine will serve both as a tool to raise awareness among their peers and as a tangible testimony to their experience. From a youth work perspective, the project aims to: Main objectives: -Enable young people to enjoy an intercultural and participatory experience, developing autonomy, cooperation and dialogue between peers. -Deconstruct gender stereotypes and prejudices by encouraging critical thinking and the exchange of experiences between young people from different countries. -Promote citizenship and active engagement by showing young people that they can be agents of change in their communities. -Develop personal, social, creative and civic skills through non-formal learning methods. Operational objectives: -Involve young people in all stages of the project, from preparation to distribution of the magazine, by empowering them and valuing their ideas. -Deepen understanding of gender inequalities and their impact on everyday life through testimonials, participatory workshops and intercultural exchanges. -Encourage cooperation and community life within an international group in order to strengthen communication, organisational and teamwork skills. -Stimulate participants' creative expression and autonomy through the design of the magazine and the organisation of artistic and journalistic workshops. -Promote intercultural exchange and awareness of other young people's practices and perceptions by comparing realities and discussing cultural and social differences. In summary, this project will enable young people from Belgium, Romania and Turkey to share their experiences of gender inequality, develop their critical thinking and creativity, and produce a concrete tool that gives voice to their opinions and extends their civic engagement. From a youth work perspective, the aim is to put young people at the centre of the action, empower them and provide them with a safe and inclusive environment where they can learn, experiment and take collective action.
