The project “L’Eras’murs à fissurer” pursues several objectives from different perspectives. First of all, we aim to enable young people from the same country and the same region to meet and interact. The two Belgian partners operate within very distinct socio-economic contexts: on the one hand, a group of young people whose parents come from immigrant backgrounds and who often face precarious living conditions; and on the other hand, a group living in a more privileged socio-economic area, mostly from Caucasian families. With the diverse profiles of the three partners (Belgian and Serbian), we aim to promote social cohesion and the discovery of the cultural richness of both countries, as well as that of the young participants themselves. Secondly, we want to give space to the free expression of young people. We observe that many young people show little interest in politics because they feel that voting is pointless and that their voices will never be heard, whereas Serbian youth have decided to take their destiny into their own hands by demonstrating against the authorities in power. Through this project, we want to create this cultural contrast so that young people can exchange their current views on society and reflect on how they can have influence and value within a society that, for some, feels out of reach; and learn how to crack the walls that confine them in their daily lives. To bring these different perspectives to life, we aim, throughout the entire project and thanks to the expertise of the Serbian partner, to write, direct, produce, and disseminate young people’s voices through a form of “theatre of action,” which each partner will be able to take ownership of within their respective organizations and share within their communities.
