Objectives

Power Up! aims to empower young women (17–22) with fewer opportunities by creating safe access to international mobility and non-formal learning spaces where they can strengthen confidence, autonomy, and leadership. The project responds to persistent gender-related barriers that limit young women’s participation in outdoor activities, international exchanges, and formative youth programmes, particularly for those living in socially, culturally, or geographically vulnerable contexts. Through Adventure Education and experiential learning, the project supports young women in exploring personal limits, cooperation, and responsibility in a way that respects individual pace and choice. A women-only setting and gender-aware facilitation reduce social pressure and comparison, enabling participants to engage fully and authentically. Through this approach, young women are supported in stepping out of their comfort zones at their own pace, discovering their strengths and building confidence in themselves and in others. The objectives include strengthening self-confidence, communication and cooperation skills, fostering resilience, and supporting participants in reimagining what is possible for them in outdoor, leadership and group contexts. In parallel, the project aims to strengthen youth work practice within the partnership. Through joint preparation, reflection and cooperation, youth leaders develop shared approaches to inclusion, safety and experiential learning. Particular attention is given to understanding and responding to cultural and contextual barriers faced by participants, ensuring gender-sensitive and inclusive guidance throughout the exchange. The project aims to create a safe and empowering international learning environment in which young women can explore outdoor and adventure-based activities, develop self-confidence and strengthen personal and social competences. From a youth work perspective, the project responds to the underrepresentation of young women in outdoor sports and international mobility by actively reducing social, cultural and economic barriers to participation.
