With this project, the non-profit organization JONG aims to empower socially vulnerable young people by giving them access to an international learning experience that is often not a given for them. From a youth welfare perspective, the project focuses on experiential learning, where young people learn by doing, experiencing, and reflecting together. A key objective is to strengthen the personal, social, and intercultural skills of the participants. By traveling together, undertaking multi-day hikes, camping, and participating in cultural activities, young people develop self-reliance, perseverance, a sense of responsibility, and collaboration skills. At the same time, they broaden their worldview and future prospects by discovering other countries, cultures, and living environments within Europe. Their self-awareness of European citizenship also grows, making the concept of "Europe" tangible. Furthermore, the project aims to raise young people's awareness of sustainable and ecological travel. By choosing slow travel by train and on foot, young people experience Europe at a different pace and are encouraged to reflect on their own impact on the environment. The nature experiences during the hikes create space for reflection on sustainability, care for the environment, and respect for nature and the landscape. These experiences contribute to greater environmental awareness and a more sustainable attitude, both during the trip and afterwards in daily life. The project also contributes to inclusion and equal opportunities within youth welfare work. By removing financial and social barriers, vulnerable young people are given the opportunity to experience international travel in a safe and supervised manner. This strengthens their self-confidence and self-esteem and shows them that they too can fully participate in European initiatives. Finally, through this project, the non-profit organization JONG aims to strengthen its youth welfare work by integrating international and sustainable mobility as a methodology. The experiences and learning outcomes gained are sustainably embedded and contribute to high-quality, inclusive, and future-oriented youth welfare work.
