Objectives

The Breaking the Loop project aims to empower young people to recognize, understand and break risky digital behavioral patterns related to online gambling, impulsive decision-making and addictions, by supporting them to build more informed, conscious and sustainable choices in the digital environment. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project sets the following objectives, aimed directly at young people: 1. To increase the knowledge and skills of young people to recognize the risks associated with online gambling, including algorithmic manipulations, behavioral traps, manipulative UX practices and aggressive advertising strategies that aim to retain and escalate consumption. 2. To build a basic understanding of the mechanisms of addiction, by helping young people to realize how impulsivity, habits and compulsive behavior are formed, and what personal and social factors increase vulnerability to digital addictions. 3. To promote critical thinking and informed choices by supporting participants to analyse advertising messages, financial risks and social consequences of online gambling, and to develop more sustainable and responsible patterns of behaviour in the digital environment. 4. To strengthen inclusion and equal access to support by creating a safe, non-judgemental and supportive environment for young people at risk – especially young people from economically vulnerable communities, NEETs and young men, who are statistically among the most affected by problem gambling behaviour. 5. To promote the values of the European Union among young people by encouraging active participation, solidarity and social responsibility through the development of youth initiatives and messages against manipulative forms of online behaviour, in line with the EU principles of protecting human dignity, transparency, safety and responsible digital participation.
