The "Culture Reboot: Youth Reconnecting Through Digital Creativity" initiative is conceived as a strategic youth work intervention designed to address a critical issue affecting our target group across the Balkans and Eastern Europe. General Objective (youth work practice): To strengthen youth participation and inclusion by using non-formal, youth-led digital creativity as a tool to reconnect young people (especially those with fewer opportunities) with cultural heritage, improve media literacy, and build transferable competences for community life and employability. Our needs analysis identifies a troubling dichotomy: while young people in Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, North Macedonia, and Cyprus are the most digitally connected generation in history, they suffer from a profound disconnection from their local cultural heritage and lack the productive skills to shape the digital narrative. This project aims to reverse this trend by transforming the digital realm from a space of passive consumption and disinformation into a dynamic arena for cultural preservation, democratic expression, and social inclusion. By immersing 35 participants 25 of whom face significant geographical and economic barriers in a "Digital Atelier" in rural Bansko, we aim to demonstrate that modern technology and traditional heritage are not opposing forces, but powerful allies in fostering active citizenship. From the perspective of youth work practice, our primary achievement will be the successful integration of "hard" digital skills with "soft" intercultural competencies using Non-Formal Education (NFE) methodologies. We utilize a "learning-by-creating" approach where the hierarchy between teacher and student is dissolved, replaced by peer-to-peer mentoring (the "Digital Buddy" system). This pedagogical choice is deliberate; it aims to rebuild the confidence of participants who have been marginalized by traditional education systems. The programme is based on learning-by-creating, peer mentoring (digital buddy approach), experiential learning cycles, and daily reflection routines that make learning visible and transferable. Specific Objectives: • To enable participants to produce and publish 5 collaborative Digital Heritage Portfolios (photo/audio/video) demonstrating practical digital storytelling skills and ethical content production. • To strengthen intercultural competence and cultural awareness through mixed-nationality teams and intergenerational fieldwork, helping participants compare and value cultural diversity in a respectful way. • To improve media literacy and critical thinking through hands-on verification tasks (source-checking, manipulation awareness), supporting participants to act responsibly online. • To operationalise inclusion by ensuring meaningful participation of 25 young people with fewer opportunities, using peer support, accessible methods, and safe-space procedures (including gender balance and LGBTQI+ sensitivity). • To support sustainability by encouraging participants to implement follow-up sharing actions in their home communities, with a target that most participants contribute to at least one dissemination/follow-up activity within 3 months (supported by partner mentoring and templates). A core objective is to elevate the Media Literacy of participants. Through practical workshops on source verification and "Deepfake" detection, we will train young people to distinguish between authentic cultural narratives and manipulated information. This ensures they return home not just as skilled technicians, but as critical thinkers capable of protecting the integrity of information in their communities. Operationalize Inclusion for Rural Youth: With the majority of our participants coming from rural or economically disadvantaged backgrounds , a fundamental goal is to operationalize the Erasmus+ Inclusion Strategy. We aim to validate the "rural experience" as a source of creative inspiration rather than a deficit. By bringing high-tech tools to rural areas, we aim to break down the psychological barrier of exclusion. Create a Sustainable Network of "Digital Multipliers": Finally, we aim to achieve a lasting ripple effect. Our objective is to transform participants into "Digital Ambassadors" who will replicate our methodology. We target that at least 80% of participants will organize follow-up activities ranging from school presentations to local "Cinema Nights" within three months of the project, thereby transferring the skills acquired in Bansko to hundreds of peers in their home communities. Ultimately, "Culture Reboot" seeks to establish a replicable model for modern youth work that proves digitalization and heritage preservation are symbiotic. We want to achieve a shift in mindset where young people realize that their smartphones are not just toys, but powerful instruments for advocacy, employment, and the democratic preservation of their identity in a rapidly changing Europe.
