Objectives

The project "Nature – Teacher and Builder of a Sustainable Future" (SustainaBUILDity) is designed to engage young people with the topic of sustainable development and demonstrate how nature can be the best teacher and inspiration for change. Through the joint participation of organizations from Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and Greece, we aim to create an experiential learning environment that enriches participants' personal development and strengthens the role of youth work as a driver of social and environmental change . From a youth work perspective, the project sets the following interconnected objectives: Empowering young people through non-formal education in a natural environment. The primary goal is to prove that learning outside the classroom, based on experiences and outdoor activities, develops key life skills – teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, and resilience in facing challenges . We will utilize methods such as environmental workshops, eco-entrepreneurship, and creative games that stimulate participants' initiative and independence. Increasing environmental awareness and developing "green" competencies. Through practical participation in outdoor activities, young people will better understand biodiversity, the importance of natural resources, and the principles of a sustainable lifestyle . We want them to realize that nature is not just a place for rest, but also a tool for personal and social development that builds necessary skills for the future. Promoting social inclusion and equal opportunities. The project envisions the active involvement of at least 12 young people with fewer opportunities – from small settlements, low-income families, or vulnerable social groups . Through individual support, mentorship, and adapted non-formal methods, we will ensure they have equal access to the benefits of international mobility and develop confidence in their own abilities. Stimulating active citizenship and youth participation. We aim to build a sense of belonging to the European community among young people and confidence that their voice matters . Therefore, participants will be encouraged to create and lead their own workshops, participate in discussions, and plan follow-up initiatives in their local communities. This aligns with the European Youth Goals, specifically Goal #9 "Space and Participation for All" and Goal #10 "Sustainable Green Europe". Supporting intercultural dialogue and European identity. Bringing together young people from six different countries will provide an opportunity for intercultural learning, breaking down stereotypes, and building tolerance . In this context, youth work will employ intercultural exchange methods that strengthen solidarity and mutual respect – key European values. Strengthening the capacity of youth workers and partner organizations. The project will enhance the competencies of leaders and facilitators by applying innovative approaches – experiential learning, suggestopedia, art therapy, and nature-based practices . This will expand their toolkit for future work with young people. Furthermore, the established international partnership will provide a foundation for new joint initiatives and increase the organizations' capacity to respond to the needs of their communities. The project directly addresses the critical deficit in practical "green" skills, which according to our research, affects over 70% of young people in the partner rural regions. In these communities, the lack of resources for non-formal education leads to high levels of social isolation and eco-anxiety. Therefore, we transform general objectives into measurable results: achieving a minimum 40% growth in practical competencies for each participant and mastering at least 3 specific sustainable construction techniques, guaranteed through the "scaffolding" methodology. Expected achievements of the objectives: Young participants will develop a higher environmental culture, practical skills for sustainable behavior, and motivation for personal contribution to environmental protection. Vulnerable participants will feel supported and acquire confidence and a sense of belonging to the European community. Youth workers will enrich their competencies and share best practices for inclusive and environmentally oriented work. Partner organizations will consolidate their cooperation and expand their opportunities for implementing future projects. By implementing this project, we want to show that the combination of nature and non-formal education is a powerful tool for building responsible, active, and solidary young citizens. Our goals do not end with a one-time youth exchange – they are aimed at long-term change: strengthening organizations, empowering young people, and creating sustainable practices applicable beyond the project's end. In this way, the project fully complies with the Erasmus+ Youth Quality Standards and contributes to the broader objectives of the Programme.
