Objectives

With the project “Game of Nature” we aim to address a concrete need identified through our youth work practice: environmental topics often reach young people in a theoretical and abstract way, which rarely leads to long-term engagement or active participation. In youth work terms, this means that young people often remain passive recipients of information instead of becoming active contributors and creators. The main objective of the project is to engage young people with topics related to nature, biodiversity and sustainability through non-formal, experiential learning and active participation. The project uses board games as an educational tool that allows complex topics to be explored through choices, consequences, teamwork and discussion, rather than through lectures or awareness campaigns. From a youth work perspective, the project has several clear objectives. First, to place young people in the role of creators rather than audience members, by involving them in a full co-creation process – from choosing a topic and developing an idea to testing a real educational tool. Second, to develop key competences relevant to youth participation and active citizenship, such as teamwork, communication, critical and creative thinking, decision-making and responsibility-taking in an international context. Third, to provide access to a quality international Youth Exchange for young people with fewer opportunities, who often have limited access to such learning experiences. An additional objective of the project is to produce concrete and usable results for youth work practice. The board games developed during the exchange will be tested with real participants and prepared for further use by youth organisations, schools and informal groups after the project ends. In this way, the project does not aim to create a commercial product, but a sustainable educational tool that supports youth work and encourages active youth engagement on environmental issues.
