Objectives

The youth exchange project “What a Wonderful World” is designed as a targeted intervention in the youth field, aiming to address discrimination, racism & social exclusion through non-formal learning. From a youth work practice perspective, the project responds to contemporary social challenges faced by young people in Europe by creating safe spaces for dialogue, empowerment & active participation. In an increasingly multicultural environment, the project seeks to transform diversity from a source of conflict into an opportunity for learning & social cohesion. The What a Wonderful World project will be implemented in Cyprus with young people from different European countries, creating a dynamic multicultural learning environment. The decision to include 21 March – the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is a conscious educational choice, strengthening the project’s link to EU values such as equality, human rights & social justice. From a youth work perspective, the main objective is to empower young people to recognise, challenge & address racism & discrimination in their daily lives. Through experiential workshops, group discussions, role-playing, artistic methods & non-formal learning activities, participants will explore stereotypes, privileges, identity, empathy & social inclusion. The project moves young people from awareness to action. Participants will develop practical skills to tackle discrimination in schools, youth work settings, local communities & online environments. They will be encouraged to act as peer educators & multipliers of inclusion. Learning objectives include the development of social & civic competences, intercultural understanding, communication & teamwork skills, as well as self-awareness & emotional intelligence. Through the exchange of good practices, participants will gain tools applicable to future youth initiatives & volunteering activities. The objectives of the project are translated into concrete changes in young people’s attitudes, skills & behaviours. “What a Wonderful World” aims not only to raise awareness about discrimination & racism, but also to empower participants to recognise, challenge & address such phenomena through non-violent, democratic & inclusive practices. At youth work practice level, the project also strengthens youth organisations & youth workers by enhancing their capacity to design inclusive interventions & contribute to youth policies based on real-life experience. What a Wonderful World aims to be more than a youth exchange: a living laboratory of social learning & active citizenship. By empowering young people to confront racism & discrimination with knowledge, empathy & action, the project contributes to a more just, open & inclusive Europe, creating a lasting impact on individuals, organisations & communities alike.
