Objectives

The “Chance to Travel for Youth – 2nd Edition ” Project, with duration 24 months, aims at providing equal opportunities to groups of young people, especially to those with fewer opportunities to travel and explore different EU countries, in a short period, through DiscoverEU. The project represents an innovative initiative which was born after the identification of specific needs, deriving from lots of activities implemented with young people, like workshops, seminars and sessions provided as Eurodesk Multipliers and which it has already been implemented with very good results in Cyprus. The activities organized throughout the project will be open for participation to young people with fewer opportunities, of 18-21years old, without any limitations. Project activities will greatly benefit young participants as they will gain knowledge, significant life and social skills, cultural, social and intercultural awareness about other European countries and the feeling of being a member of the EU. This will be achieved through both their actual participation at the travel trip, but also their active involvement throughout the whole process, starting from planning, preparation, implementation and follow-up activities. The objectives of the project are the following: 1) Give the chance to groups of young people with fewer opportunities to choose, travel and explore EU countries, their culture, traditional food and sweets, historical monuments, traditions, customs and other unique things, 2) Realise young people’s dream and wish to travel abroad with a plane, and train for the first time in their life, especially those with disabilities receiving experiences and making memories,3) Help young people with mental and/or physical disabilities visit another EU country with the assistance of professionals, without feeling discriminated and alienated by their peers. A lot of them never get the opportunity to travel,a factor which contributes to their exclusion from the society, 4) Provide opportunities to young people to travel and receive knowledge, acquire life-long experiences, and enhance life and social skills, 5) Encourage multicultural experiences, through spending time with other young people of their age, opening minds to other perspectives, ideas, opinions, and exchanging information about common issues of concern, 6) Provide opportunities familiarize with other cultures, genres of music, folklore traditional dances, historic monuments, traditional food and sweets and also other customs and living conditions. In total 6 different activities will be organized under the project, with a) 3 activities for participants with physical or/and mental disability and rare deceases and b) 3 activities for participants belonging to other categories of young people with fewer opportunities. Groups under each activity will have the option to travel either to 1 country visiting 2 different major cities or 2 countries within 6 days plus travel days. Groups will be travelling with trains within or/and between countries.
