Objectives

The aim of the project is to strengthen the quality of youth work with children and young people by developing the competences of young volunteers and reinforcing international cooperation between Kolping organisations. The project is rooted in everyday youth work practice, especially in non-formal education delivered through clubs, youth groups and summer camps, and responds to the need of volunteers to learn from practice, exchange experience and reflect on their own approach to working with children. From the perspective of youth work practice, the main objective of the project is to enable young volunteers to learn through direct experience, observation and cooperation with peers from another country. The project creates space for mutual learning between organisations working with similar target groups but in different cultural and social contexts. Through this exchange, participants can broaden their methodological skills, gain new inspiration for working with children and critically reflect on their own youth work practice. The project uses an innovative approach based on the rotation of participants’ roles, where young people move between the roles of participant, facilitator and reflector throughout the project. This approach supports a deeper understanding of the dynamics of working with children, fosters empathy, and strengthens the ability for critical self-reflection. Another key objective of the project is to support the active participation of young people in youth work. Participants are not seen as passive beneficiaries, but as co-creators of the project who are involved in planning, implementation and evaluation. This approach strengthens their sense of responsibility, self-confidence and motivation for long-term engagement in volunteering and youth work. The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of organisations to meaningfully integrate an international dimension into their everyday work with children. By involving international volunteers in concrete activities, such as the thematic framework of a summer camp, the project demonstrates how international cooperation can be used as an educational tool and as a natural part of non-formal learning. This increases the attractiveness of activities for children while at the same time promoting intercultural understanding and openness. In the long term, the project aims to contribute to the professionalisation of youth work within the participating organisations, to strengthen their capacities for international cooperation and to create a stable basis for further joint activities within the Kolping Youth network. In this way, the project supports the sustainable development of youth work, the transfer of good practice and the building of active European citizenship among young people.
