LIFE IS 2026 aims to empower young people to actively participate in community life by developing practical competences, self-confidence and intercultural understanding through experiential non-formal learning. The project responds to the need for meaningful participation opportunities, practical competence development, and stronger connection to self, others, and nature, especially for young people from rural and semi-rural environments who often have limited access to international mobility and hands-on learning experiences. From a youth work perspective, the project is based on learning by doing, co-creation, and shared responsibility. Participants take an active role in preparing and implementing activities in the learning environment of a public community festival together. Through this process, they develop key competences such as teamwork, communication, leadership, problem-solving, intercultural awareness, and civic engagement - competences they will be able to transfer into their local communities. The project also aims to strengthen young people’s mental well-being, self-confidence, and sense of belonging by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment, where participants experience trust, responsibility and mutual support. Particular attention is given to participants with fewer opportunities, ensuring equal access to learning and participation. Another important objective is to promote environmental responsibility and cultural awareness. By integrating sustainable practices and revitalising summer solstice traditions, the project supports young people in developing responsibility towards their communities and environment and are encouraged to engage in sustainable and socially responsible initiatives beyond the project. Overall, LIFE IS 2026 seeks to strengthen the role of youth as changemakers, capable of initiating and supporting positive social, cultural, and environmental initiatives in their local and European contexts.
