The project is designed as an international youth exchange focused on promoting mental well-being, resilience, social-emotional skills, and strengthening European identity among children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through movement, dance, physical theater, and elements of contemporary circus, the project creates a space for children from different European countries to meet, share experiences, and broaden their horizons beyond their usual social and family contexts, which are often limiting and do not offer a broader perspective. The project aims to bring children together regularly in structured but playful activities focused on dance, movement, circus pedagogy, and theater. These activities serve as tools for working with young people, promoting self-awareness, self-management skills, mental resilience, communication, and cooperation. The emphasis is on conscious work with the body, creative expression, and the development of a healthy relationship with oneself and others. The activities are conducted in a non-verbal form, which facilitates the involvement of children despite language differences. The aim of the project is to provide comprehensive support for children's personal development in a safe and accepting environment outside of school. The project focuses on developing social and communication skills, strengthening group cooperation, self-confidence, and self-esteem, as well as supporting self-awareness and the search for one's own identity, values, and meaning through movement, experiences, and creative activities. Emphasis is placed on intercultural learning, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging, trust, and healthy relationships between peers and adults. At the same time, it strengthens resilience to life's challenges, hope, belief in one's own potential, and positive self-perception, leading to respect for oneself, other people, and nature, and contributing to the prevention of risky behavior. Another goal of the project is to work with a stable group of children over the long term and gradually expand it, creating continuity and the opportunity to monitor the individual progress of participants. The project also builds on previous initiatives in the field of linking physical activity and mental health and develops cooperation between cultural institutions, youth workers, and professionals in the helping professions. In a broader context, the project contributes to the development of innovative approaches to creativity and health, strengthens interdisciplinary cooperation, and creates a model of good practice for working with disadvantaged youth through art and movement in cooperation with a Slovak church school and a Spanish non-profit organization. The Chameleon Kids project seeks to alleviate the challenges faced by the current generation of children and young people and create space for their growth and personal development. We believe that the innovative approach of our project, combining art, movement, and psychological support, will bring meaningful and positive changes that will strengthen the mental and emotional health of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
