Objectives

he project "Bridges Between Generations" stems from a concrete need identified at our school. A survey of 112 SVZŠ Kladno students (February 2026) showed that our students feel confident communicating with seniors in a Czech setting, but lack an international dimension — 76% have never collaborated with peers from another European country and only 22% feel confident using English outside school. Feedback from our Erasmus+ KA102 project in Slovakia (2020) confirmed that students handle technical care tasks well, but struggle to initiate natural conversation with seniors beyond care-related topics. The Czech Republic is among the fastest-aging countries in Europe, and the demand for empathetic healthcare professionals will only grow. At its core, the project shifts perspective: participants learn to speak with seniors as equal partners, not just care for them as patients. Through two interconnected mobilities — in Spain and in the Czech Republic — young people experience how different European countries approach aging, and together create practical tools for intergenerational dialogue. The project connects 20 Czech and 20 Spanish young people aged 16–19. For our school, this is our first KA152 youth exchange — we have so far only implemented VET mobilities. The transition from formal to non-formal education allows us to focus on soft skills, attitudes and personal growth. The two mobilities build on each other logically. Activity 1 in Spain (March 2027) focuses on mutual understanding — participants get to know each other, explore their stereotypes about aging, learn communication techniques and meet Spanish seniors at Instituto Cudeca. Activity 2 in the Czech Republic (June 2027) focuses on co-creating change — participants apply their skills in meetings with Czech seniors at Domov Pod Lipami Smečno, create community Action Plans and a joint Youth Declaration on the Future of Aging in Europe. Main objectives are measurable and ambitious: 80% of participants will demonstrate improvement in communication techniques, 80% will increase confidence in English, minimum 40% will be from the fewer opportunities category, 90% will identify differences in approaches to aging between the Czech Republic and Spain. Each participant will create a personal Action Plan for an intergenerational activity in their community and receive a Youthpass certificate documenting competences gained. Concrete outputs include Communication Technique Cards, a Toolkit for Intergenerational Meetings, an Activation Activities Bank, a Story Book of seniors' lives, and a Youth Declaration — all available in Czech and English on both organisations' websites and on the Erasmus+ Results Platform. The project strengthens European identity and civic engagement. It prepares young people for an active role in addressing one of the greatest challenges facing contemporary Europe — population aging.
