Objectives

Buoyancy aims to strengthen the quality and sustainability of youth work by supporting the mental wellbeing, resilience, and professional presence of youth workers who operate under high emotional workload, especially when working with young people with fewer opportunities. From a youth work practice perspective, we want participants to leave with concrete, low-threshold tools that help them stay regulated in demanding situations, build safer spaces, and maintain healthy boundaries without losing empathy or motivation. At the same time, the project introduces aquatic methodologies as a new, structured non-formal learning environment that expands the professional toolbox of youth workers and organisations, offering innovative ways to explore support, trust, co-regulation, and emotional safety in an experiential and transferable way. The specific objectives are: to increase youth workers’ capacity for self-regulation, stress management, and boundary-setting in response to high emotional workload to introduce water-based methodologies as innovative and inclusive tools within non-formal education and youth work to support youth workers in adapting embodied practices to their work with young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities to contribute to sustainable youth work practice by strengthening prevention of burnout and long-term wellbeing
