The main aim of the project "The edge within" is to strengthen the professional, emotional and methodological capacity of youth workers to respond to the real-life challenges faced by young people today, especially those experiencing anxiety, uncertainty, social exclusion and limited access to supportive environments. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project seeks to support youth workers in developing a more holistic, reflective and human-centred approach to their work. It recognises that high-quality youth work is not only based on technical skills, but also on emotional competence, self-awareness, empathy and the ability to create safe and empowering learning spaces. By participating in this project, youth workers will deepen their understanding of the psychological, emotional and social needs of young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities. They will learn how anxiety, fear of failure, insecurity and lack of belonging affect young people’s participation, motivation and personal development, and how these challenges can be addressed through supportive and inclusive practices. This enables participants to develop emotional awareness and self-reflection skills that strengthen their capacity to facilitate inclusive group processes and respond to emotional challenges in youth work settings. A key objective is to equip participants with innovative and practical methodologies based on storytelling, eco-centric learning, creative arts and reflective processes. These methods enable youth workers to engage young people in meaningful ways, support emotional expression, strengthen resilience and foster self-confidence and social inclusion. Participants will learn how to adapt these tools to different contexts, including outdoor, community-based and digital environments. Another important objective is to strengthen youth workers’ capacity to work ethically and sustainably. Through self-reflection and peer learning, participants will explore their own boundaries, stress management, professional roles and well-being. This supports the prevention of burnout and contributes to long-term quality in youth work practice. The project also aims to enhance participants’ digital competences and online facilitation skills. Youth workers will learn how to translate experiential and relational methodologies into virtual formats, ensuring that young people can access emotional support and learning opportunities even when physical meetings are not possible. At organisational level, the project seeks to strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and support the integration of innovative methodologies into their regular youth work activities. Participants will be encouraged to act as multipliers, sharing tools, approaches and values within their teams and networks. Overall, the project aims to empower youth workers to become more confident, reflective and creative professionals who are able to support young people not only in acquiring skills, but also in developing resilience, emotional balance, social responsibility and a sense of belonging. By strengthening youth workers, the project contributes to building more inclusive, responsive and sustainable youth work practices across Europe.
