Objectives

The motivation behind the TASTE YE on food waste management is connected with the urgent need to empower young people to understand, prevent, and actively respond to one of today’s most pressing environmental and social challenges. Food waste is not only an ethical concern but also a major contributor to climate change, inefficient use of natural resources, and global food insecurity. This project seeks to raise awareness among young people while equipping them with practical tools and competences to act locally and think globally. The project will bring together 42 young participants from 7 partner organizations across different countries, creating a vibrant intercultural learning environment where diversity becomes a strength. By engaging youth from various cultural, social, and economic contexts, the exchange fosters cooperation, mutual understanding, and a shared responsibility for sustainable development. The international dimension enhances learning by exposing participants to multiple perspectives, traditions, and innovative practices related to food consumption and waste reduction. Over an 8-days program, participants will take part in non-formal educational activities such as interactive workshops, group discussions, simulations, creative laboratories, study visits, and reflection sessions. These methods are designed to encourage critical thinking, peer learning, and hands-on engagement. Participants will explore the environmental impacts of food waste, including greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion, as well as the economic costs for households and communities and the social consequences, particularly food insecurity and inequality. Special emphasis will be placed on transforming knowledge into action. Youth will work in international teams to design practical solutions, awareness campaigns, and community-based initiatives that can be realistically implemented after returning home. These activities will empower participants to become multipliers of sustainable practices within their local environments. The intercultural dimension is a core element of the project. Participants will present traditional food practices, local habits, and cultural approaches that help prevent food waste in their communities. Through cultural evenings, national presentations, and collaborative discussions, young people will discover diverse methods of food preservation, responsible consumption, redistribution, and reuse. By involving 7 youth organizations, the project establishes a strong foundation for long-term cooperation. The partners will form a transnational network of youth leaders and organizations committed to reducing food waste and promoting environmental responsibility. The outcomes of the exchange will be integrated into local activities, youth centers, schools, and community initiatives in each partner country. Dissemination and follow-up activities will play a crucial role in ensuring sustainability. Participants will organize local workshops, social media campaigns, and public presentations to share the project results, promote Erasmus+ opportunities, and raise awareness among a wider audience. This ensures that the impact of the project extends far beyond the exchange itself. A key ambition of the project is to develop leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement skills among participants. Youth will be encouraged to take initiative, express their ideas, and actively contribute to community change. By learning how to plan campaigns, communicate effectively, and engage stakeholders, participants will become active green youth change makers. YE Objectives: - To educate young people on the environmental, economic, and social impacts of food waste, highlighting its connection to climate change, resource depletion, and food insecurity across different European regions. - To encourage participants from different countries to share traditional and local practices that help minimize food waste and promote sustainable consumption. - To promote teamwork and active participation by engaging participants in the creation of community-based initiatives, such as food rescue actions, awareness workshops, and school campaigns focused on reducing food waste. - To establish a European network of youth leaders committed to food waste reduction, supporting participants in promoting sustainable practices within their own countries and rising green awareness through actions. - To facilitate the exchange of national educational practices in environmental protection and the promotion of effective strategies to reduce pollution caused by food waste. - To initiate the Youth dialogue between the youth participants promoting the Youth Goals specially the number 10 Sustainable Green Europe.
