Objectives

By implementing Youthocracy: Shaping Tomorrow, we aim to strengthen the role of youth work as a practical space where democracy, participation, and inclusion are learned through experience rather than theory. The project is designed as a youth exchange where young people actively practise democratic values, develop competences relevant to their daily lives, and are supported to become more engaged in their communities. From a youth work perspective, the main objective of the project is to empower young people to understand and experience democracy as something they can actively shape, not only as a formal political system. Many young people feel distant from decision-making processes or lack confidence to express their views. Through non-formal education methods such as simulations, group discussions, creative workshops, and reflection, the project creates a safe learning environment where young people can test ideas, make mistakes, and learn together. A key objective is to develop core youth work competences, especially critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and intercultural dialogue. By working in mixed international groups, participants learn to listen to different perspectives, negotiate decisions, and cooperate across cultural and social differences. These competences are directly transferable to youth participation at local level, such as youth councils, volunteer groups, student initiatives, or community projects. Another important objective is to ensure meaningful inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities in international youth work. The project is designed so that at least half of the participants face economic, social, cultural, or educational barriers. Through targeted preparation, mentoring by group leaders, and adaptable non-formal methods, the project aims to show that youth work can be inclusive and accessible, and that all young people can actively contribute regardless of their background. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project also aims to strengthen the capacity of youth organisations and youth workers. By jointly designing, implementing, and evaluating activities, partner organisations exchange methods, improve their facilitation skills, and gain practical experience in democracy education, media literacy, and participatory approaches. Less experienced organisations benefit from peer learning and mentoring within the partnership. Finally, the project aims to support continuity and follow-up in youth work. Young people are not only participants but also co-creators of dissemination and follow-up activities. They are encouraged to transfer what they learned into local youth initiatives, workshops, or future Erasmus+ projects. In this way, the project contributes to sustainable youth work practice that continues beyond the mobility itself. In summary, the project aims to: -enable young people to experience and practise democratic participation through non-formal youth work methods, -strengthen key competences for active citizenship relevant to everyday youth contexts, -promote inclusive youth work that reaches young people with fewer opportunities, -enhance the quality and capacity of youth organisations involved, -and support long-term engagement and follow-up in local youth work environments.
