With the project “The Ocean and the Power of Young People to Protect It,” we want to strengthen young people in their personal development and empower them to become actively involved in social and environmental issues. The aim of the project is to make environmental and marine conservation a central theme of youth work within the framework of an international youth exchange. From a youth work perspective, we want to raise young people's awareness of global environmental issues through non-formal learning. We want to promote their decision-making and action-taking skills in the field of sustainability. Participants should experience that their voluntary commitment has an impact and that, as young Europeans, they can take responsibility for protecting the oceans. In addition, we want to strengthen intercultural learning, mutual understanding, and European solidarity. Through the active participation of young people in the planning, implementation, and follow-up of the project, we promote self-efficacy, participation, and long-term engagement in youth work—both at the local and European levels.
