With the implementation of our project, we aim to open equal access to international youth work for young people with physical disabilities and to develop a new understanding of inclusive cooperation together with their companions. Many young people with disabilities have so far been excluded from mobility programs because barriers, lack of assistance, or uncertainties make participation difficult. Our project addresses this issue directly and creates a safe, accessible space in which young people from Germany and Türkiye can meet, learn from each other, and act together. From the perspective of youth work, our objective is to empower young people as active shapers of their own lives. They should experience that their voices matter, that they can make decisions and take responsibility. The youth exchange provides a protected framework in which social, communicative, and intercultural competencies can be practiced in real-life situations. Through non-formal learning methods, teamwork, and creative activities, participants develop self-confidence, independence, and the courage to engage actively in society. A central concern of our project is the further development of the role of companions. In many areas, accompaniment is still understood as mere care. Instead, we want to establish a partnership-based model in which companions act as learning partners who support young people without patronizing them. This approach corresponds to modern concepts of inclusive youth work and strengthens the dignity and autonomy of the young participants. The exchange in Antalya combines encounter, learning, and everyday experiences. Young people with and without disabilities work together in mixed teams, explore accessible and non-accessible spaces, and jointly develop solutions to overcome obstacles. This helps to reduce prejudices and promotes a realistic understanding of diversity. Cooperation with young people from Türkiye opens new perspectives, strengthens European awareness, and fosters mutual respect. Another objective is to link youth work with health and mobility promotion. Adapted activities support mobility and body awareness and demonstrate that participation must also take physical conditions into account. At the same time, participants learn to take responsibility for their own well-being and for that of the group. In the long term, we want to build sustainable structures through the project. The methods and experiences developed will be integrated into the work of InterAktiv e.V. and will enable new inclusive offers. Young people and companions will become multipliers who pass on their knowledge in schools, associations, and communities. Through the Youthpass and a national certificate, learning outcomes will be made visible and usable for the participants’ further life paths. The project therefore pursues several interconnected objectives: strengthening the self-determination of young people with disabilities, professionalizing companions, reducing social barriers, promoting intercultural encounters, and developing inclusive European youth work. We want to demonstrate that international mobility is not a privilege for a few, but a right for all young people. Through the close German-Turkish partnership, the active involvement of participants in all phases, and the consistent orientation toward Erasmus Youth quality standards, the project creates an impact that goes far beyond the exchange itself. It contributes to an open society in which diversity is understood as a strength and in which young people – regardless of disability or origin – can actively shape their own future.
