Objectives

The International Youth Camp fills a local gap in international youth work and practically promotes young people's personal, social, and intercultural competencies in the district of Starnberg. Under the theme "Balance the beat – Find the breeze" we address mental health, strengthen resilience and participation, and at the same time create sustainable connections between municipalities, organizations, and young people — with the goal of achieving lasting impacts for participants, professionals, and local structures. From the perspective of youth work practice, we want to fulfill our statutory mandate and close an existing provision gap in the Starnberg district in the field of international youth work with the International Youth Camp. At the same time, we pursue concrete pedagogical goals: we strengthen the participants' personal and social competencies and promote intercultural competencies as well as European togetherness. A central theme of the camp is mental health. We raise awareness of stressors, teach everyday strategies for coping with stress, and promote the resilience of young people. In doing so, we deliberately draw on the diversity and competencies of our European partners to professionally strengthen all those involved at the regional level — from the participants to the caregivers. Participation and co-determination are guiding principles of our approach; inclusion and accessibility for young people with limited mobility and low incomes are equally central to us. With the project we want to improve the quality of provision in local youth work: full-time and volunteer professionals should expand their intercultural competencies, test new methods and materials, and ideally transfer these into other programs. Through the involvement of numerous partners, municipalities, clubs, and political decision-makers, we want to further consolidate and expand the transnational partnerships.
