Objectives

In the bilateral youth exchange project "Summer Art Camp Mental Health", young participants dive into the topic of mental health, connecting their own habits, ideas and every day lifes to get the opportunity to connect with other young people through arts and culture. Their experiences, theirs way of living together in our current society are contextualised in their own way with artistic and aesthetic practices. The artistic exploration in the project enables creative access to the participants' lifeworld-orientated ideas and thus connects art with current issues in our society: What are current issues of their daily life? What do young people need to feel safe? How can arts and the exchange with other peers promote new perspectives and contribute to their well-being? With non-formal education these questions can we explored in a unusual and creative way. The project idea and main focus comes from the experiences we could made during in the last years of working with young adults: The topic mental health and well-being in a period of multicrises, that effects especially young people, that don't have such a strong lobby, is more then present in the daily life of (international) youth work. Loneliness, mental illness, and increasingly frequent use of social media are factors that are having a growing impact on the lives of young people in today's globalized world. In this context, it remains important to listen to young people at this stage of their lives and to create opportunities that either enable them to address these issues or, as far as possible, counteract them. Cultural education, informal learning, and project settings that directly address the needs and circumstances of young people can be suitable means to this end. As our previous projects too, the "Summer art camp 2026" aims to raise a young European generation to become more aware of their own perspectives, of their needs, their strategies for greater resilience and well-being during puberty. The topic also always involves questions of identity and coexistence, thus creating an opportunity to exchange ideas with other young people. In an international context, further perspectives and interconnections arising from current global circumstances and coexistence in Europe also become apparent. We want to create a space were young participants can connect with eachother, including differences, particularities, but overall especially also similarities that they can find by connecting in bilateral projects like this. To create space and time to become more conscious about the own needs and strategies for mental health, exploring through art and cultural workshops gives youngsters the possibility to get to know not only better themselves but help them also to explore their own place in the society. Furthermore, we do not want to ignore the social circumstances that young people face and have to deal with today (e.g. multiple crises, global interdependencies, living in a digitalised and connected world with social media), and we want to incorporate these specifically into our reflections, in the workshops and in the programme as well. The development of new perspectives via arts and cultures can be a different one to the one school and formal education could offer them. With the project "Summer art camp mental health”, organisers want to engage youth from Germany and French in mutual and explorative activities using creative and aesthetic methods which include creative art and cultural workshops such as journalisme/podcasting, fine art and theater as well as excursions around the project venue and surroundings. The idea is to get an easy acces to these topics and to open a space where ideas are created and discussed in a group of youngsters from both countries. During the mobility in Germany, participants will gain ideas and new perspectives by using artistic practices that are suitable for creating an emotional, lifeworld-orientated approach to an individual and social dialogue and one's own role. Project has among other things following objectives: 1. Encourage youth to become empowered individual with a critical and reflective thinking with a lifeworld-oriented approach and by working in creatives and aesthetic ways 2. To promote better understanding of different cultures, habits, daily lives through discussions, presentations and common work through the specific topic of identity 3. To explore the cultural influences on everyday actions, especially on questions about living together in society and how societies are approaching to current social challenges 4. To stimulate the development of transcultural dialogue among different cultures and fields of art through cultural and nonformal educational activities. By the term “transcultural” we include also cultural differences and similarities in the same region, coming from the different perspectives from rural and urban living
