Objectives

By implementing this Youth Exchange, we aim to strengthen youth work practice in the field of environmental sustainability by providing young people with structured, experiential, and competence-based learning opportunities that transform environmental awareness into practical action. From a youth work perspective, the project seeks to respond to the identified gap between concern about environmental challenges and the ability to actively address them. Non-formal education plays a crucial role in bridging this gap by offering participatory, inclusive, and skills-oriented learning environments. Through this project, we aim to empower young people especially those with fewer opportunities to become confident actors in sustainability initiatives within their communities. The objectives of the project are the following: 1.To increase participants’ understanding of circular economy principles, sustainable consumption, and waste management practices in different European countries. From a youth work perspective, this objective focuses on strengthening environmental literacy through non-formal learning methods that encourage critical thinking and intercultural comparison. 2.To develop practical competences in upcycling, recycling, and waste separation through hands-on workshops, NGO visits, and creative group work. This objective reflects experiential youth work practice, where learning by doing enables young people to acquire tangible skills and apply knowledge in real-life contexts. 3.To strengthen the participation and self-confidence of young people with fewer opportunities by actively involving them in leadership roles during workshops and dissemination activities. This aligns with the core youth work principle of empowerment, ensuring that young people are not passive recipients but active contributors and facilitators. 4.To foster intercultural dialogue and exchange of sustainable lifestyle practices among youth. Through mixed-national teamwork and shared reflection, the project strengthens intercultural competence and promotes mutual understanding — key elements of European youth work. 5.To equip participants with tools to design and implement local workshops and raise awareness in their home communities. This objective supports youth participation and active citizenship by enabling young people to transfer learning into local action. 6.To co-create tangible project outputs, including a digital booklet about “Green Habits Across Europe,” and environmental awareness videos. From a youth work perspective, co-creation enhances ownership, collaboration, and practical skill development while ensuring that learning results in visible and reusable outcomes. Overall, the project aims to contribute to quality youth work practice by combining sustainability education, inclusion, intercultural exchange, competence development, and structured follow-up. It strengthens young people’s capacity to reflect, collaborate, and act — empowering them to become environmentally responsible and socially engaged members of their communities.
