Objectives

The main aim of the “GREAT Legends” project is to empower young people from Estonia, Türkiye and Bulgaria by developing their competences in teamwork, self-expression, critical thinking, intercultural understanding and intercultural dialogue through structured theatrical activities and the exploration of national legends. From the perspective of youth work practice, this project represents a logical continuation of the long-term and sustainable project cooperation between the partner organisations. For the consortium, this initiative constitutes the third jointly implemented international youth project. The established cooperation between Tallinna Mustjõe Gümnaasium (Estonia) and Easy English (Bulgaria) is based on the following successfully implemented projects: • 2024: “S&S” – Smile & Say “Cheese”! (2023-3-EE01-KA152-YOU-000172178) • 2025: “GREAT!” – Generate Real Engagement and Talent! (2025-1-EE01-KA152-YOU-000301792) Within the “GREAT!” project (2025), the Global Foreign Language Educators Association (GFLEA) from Türkiye participated as the third partner organisation. Following joint evaluation and strategic discussions, the partners agreed to continue their cooperation under a new project concept and title “GREAT Legends.” The partner organisations from Bulgaria and Estonia remain unchanged. However, the Turkish partner organisation has been replaced: Yenişehir Belediyesi Bilim ve Sanat Merkezi (Yenişehir BİLSEM) has joined the partnership instead of GFLEA. The decision to change the Turkish partner was based on two key considerations. Firstly, the involvement of a public educational institution is more closely aligned with the objectives, target group and educational approach of the new project. Secondly, continuity within the partnership is ensured, as the same team leaders and a significant number of the same young participants are involved, having previously participated through GFLEA. As a result, while the partner organisation has been formally changed, the human resources, expertise, and participant experience remain consistent, ensuring both continuity and increased relevance for the new project framework. Objectives of the Project. • Development of Communication, Creativity, and Personal Competences: The project aims to strengthen young people’s communication, creativity, and self-expression through theatre-based learning methods. Participants will improve their public speaking, acting, and self-presentation skills while exploring the common theme “Legends and Stories That Connect Us.” These activities will support the development of self-confidence, resilience, and the ability to transfer acquired competences to educational, social, and professional contexts. • Promotion of Intercultural Dialogue, European Values, and Active Citizenship: By bringing together 48 young participants (16 from each partner country), the project promotes intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect for diversity. Working in international teams will contribute to breaking down stereotypes and strengthening a shared European identity based on common values, democratic participation, and solidarity, in line with Erasmus+ objectives. • Youth Leadership and Participation through Peer Mentorship: A key priority of the project is the active participation of young people in all stages of the project cycle. At least 50% of the participants from the previous joint project “GREAT!” will be involved in “GREAT Legends” as peer mentors. This peer-to-peer learning approach empowers young people, enhances youth leadership, and provides practical experience in international project planning, implementation, and evaluation, supporting meaningful youth participation in line with Erasmus+ youth priorities. • Digital Transformation and Media Literacy: The project contributes to the digital transformation priority of Erasmus+ by developing participants’ digital and media literacy. Young people will use artificial intelligence tools and Web 2.0 technologies to create a “Digital Archive of Legends” and produce inclusive and responsible multimedia content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Particular attention will be paid to ethical digital behaviour, critical use of digital tools, and online communication skills. • Inclusion, Diversity, and Social Engagement: In line with the Erasmus+ priority on inclusion and diversity, the project actively involves young people who may face communication barriers, fewer opportunities, or risks of social isolation. Through inclusive theatrical performances for local audiences in Mersin and collaborative creative processes, the project promotes social inclusion, equal participation, and community engagement among young people from all three partner organisations.
