Firstly, this project focuses on a significant problem in today’s world– fast fashion. It’s important to recognize its awful environmental impact, but also the controversial topic of human rights violation. Workers working in the big production chain of clothes are often mistreated by corporations, which is unfortunately a topic not taken seriously enough as of today. The first objective in this project is to raise awareness to participants on the topic, but also provide them with the tools to make a positive impact on a local or international scale. To do that, it’s important to educate them on sustainable knowledge. This project takes a less known approach to teach participants sustainable skills, by utilizing the strategy of upcycling clothes– repurposing old unused garments and materials into something new and useful. The participants will get the chance to learn about different textiles, materials and chemicals, how to use different techniques and handicraft skills to create their own little “fashion collection” by the end of the project. This process will also allow the participants to express themselves creatively, which is crucial in today's digitalised world. This gives the participants the needed skills which they can utilize in their everyday life to live environmentally friendly, making a positive impact on the world. During the activities, the youngsters will get the chance to share their found knowledge, provide feedback and work together as a team, to increase their cultural understanding, teamwork and communicating skills, which they can use later on to make a bigger impact on their own community. It’s important to also mention the connections and networking made during the project, which makes future international and European-level communication and collaboration between individuals and organizations easier. This is even more important to participants and organizations who have never participated in Erasmus+ funded projects, since this gives them an opportunity to experience it for the first time. Furthermore, being in an environment where English is the main spoken language means that the youngsters will have a perfect opportunity to polish their speaking skills and enrich their vocabulary, which is very important in today’s digitalized world. Additionally, we believe it is particularly important to include youth with less opportunities in this project. This will provide them with a more equal platform for learning and participating in international projects, and the opportunity to gain the experience and skills that we hope this project will provide participants with. This project has a very important aspect of empowering youth, because it’s written, led and organized by youngsters themselves. It provides a perfect opportunity for motivated young participants to realize their potential and to grow as a person together with others. Some of the young people have previously written and hosted an Erasmus+ youth exchange. However, for many of them, this project will be their first opportunity to be involved in an Erasmus+ project from start to finish, from creating it to participating in it. Since the activities carried out will be done with informal learning, from youngsters to youngsters, it will also act as an inspiration for others to do the same for a bigger impact. The project is planned and conducted by young people, with unwavering support from partner organisations and youth workers. The organisations have different backgrounds and experiences with international programmes, but are all well versed in Erasmus+ projects and can provide participants with the necessary support to successfully bring this project to life. The organisations and skilled youth workers provide support, particularly in practical areas such as organising logistics, travel and the safety of participants. They are also supporting the project's facilitation, guiding the young people as needed to achieve the best possible learning outcomes. In summary, the objectives are: - raise awareness on fast fashion impacts; - develop practical upcycling skills; - create cultural understanding and cooperation among youth; - empower young people as active changemakers in their communities. Overall, the youngsters will not only go through substantial self-development themselves during this project, but will also get the perfect tools to have a positive impact on others on a local, but also on an international level on the topics of fast fashion’s impact, environmental awareness and upcycling.
