Objectives

The project Empowering Youth for Environmental Sustainability aims to empower young people to actively respond to contemporary environmental and social challenges by applying youth work methodologies based on non-formal education, participation, and experiential learning. The project is fully aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Youth program, particularly with environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change, young people’s active participation in democratic life, and the social inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities. The project targets young people living in rural, remote, or less developed areas, as well as young people who have moved to urban centers and wish to return to their local communities, seeking sustainable perspectives for life, employment, and active participation. These groups often face limited access to learning opportunities, participation, and empowerment, which makes youth work a crucial tool for support and development. From a youth work practice perspective, the project aims to: strengthen participants’ environmental awareness and critical thinking in relation to climate change, sustainable management of natural resources, and sustainable lifestyles; develop practical skills related to climate action, sustainable local development, and community-based green initiatives; encourage youth initiative-takin, active citizenship, and social participation at local level; support the retention or return of young people to rural and remote areas, presenting sustainability as a realistic and attractive development pathway. The project directly contributes to the implementation of the EU Youth Goals, in particular A Sustainable Green Europe, Space and Participation for All, Quality Learning, and A Rural Europe. Through participatory workshops, peer learning, outdoor and locally adapted activities, and structured reflection processes, the project strengthens young people’s personal development, social inclusion, and democratic participation. The project will contribute to the development of clear learning outcomes, as recognized through the Youthpass, particularly in the areas of environmental awareness, active citizenship, cooperation, critical thinking, and initiative-taking. At the same time, the majority of participants are expected to demonstrate a positive change in their knowledge, skills, and attitudes through pre- and post-activity evaluation tools, as well as increased readiness to engage in local sustainable actions in rural and remote communities.
