Objectives

LENS (Shift the Lens) is a Youth Exchange that will take place in Alexandroupolis, Greece, hosted by Mindspark+ at the Mindspark+ Youth Center. It brings together young people from Greece, Finland, Portugal and Romania to learn through a hands-on film-making process. The project responds to a clear need in youth work practice: many young people live in a digital environment shaped by images and short videos, but they often lack practical media literacy, critical thinking and safe spaces to express their views on social issues. These needs are stronger for young people with fewer opportunities, especially those facing economic barriers, living in rural or remote areas, or being in NEET situations, who have fewer chances to access creative learning and international experiences. The project aims to empower young people to become more confident, responsible and active in society by using audiovisual storytelling as a non-formal learning tool. Participants will work in international teams and create at least three short films on topics linked to media literacy, disinformation, inclusion and responsible communication. Young people will lead the creative decisions, while facilitators and group leaders will support the process, ensure inclusion and wellbeing, and connect learning to Youthpass competences. From a youth work perspective, the objectives of LENS are: -To strengthen young people’s media literacy and critical thinking through practical experience, helping them recognise disinformation and stereotypes and communicate responsibly. -To develop key competences through non-formal education, such as teamwork, communication in English, creativity, initiative, problem solving and learning to learn, with reflection supported by Youthpass. -To promote inclusion by ensuring meaningful participation of young people with fewer opportunities and by using a method where different talents can contribute through varied roles. -To strengthen intercultural understanding and European citizenship by bringing young people from different countries together to collaborate, reflect and learn from each other. -To increase youth participation and civic engagement by turning learning outcomes into public products (films) and community dialogue through screenings and discussions. After the Youth Exchange, young people will act as multipliers. Each partner group will organise at least one local screening and discussion in its country, and the films will also be presented publicly in Alexandroupolis, with a strong visibility opportunity through the AXD Film Festival. The partnership will also produce a practical PDF guide describing the method and lessons learned, to be uploaded to the SALTO Youth Toolbox so that other youth workers and organisations can reuse the approach. Through this project, we want to strengthen youth work practice by combining intercultural learning and creative media in a realistic, youth-led way, creating lasting benefits for participants and practical results that can inspire others beyond the project lifetime.
