LumenSpaces aims to empower young people from Greece, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, North Macedonia, and Albania to become active agents of change by combining eco-art, sustainability, and civic participation through non-formal education. The project responds to a shared challenge: young people often lack visible, practical ways to shape their urban environments and contribute to climate action, despite being the generation most affected by environmental degradation. From the perspective of youth work practice, our objectives are: 1. To develop young people's green competences and environmental literacy through hands-on experience. Participants will co-design and physically build eco-art interventions in a public green space in Athens, working with recycled materials, natural elements, and creative techniques. This learning-by-doing approach connects ecological knowledge with creative expression and gives participants practical skills they can transfer to their own communities. 2. To strengthen democratic participation and civic engagement. The project uses co-design methodology, where participants collectively research community needs, negotiate design choices, and make democratic decisions about the public intervention. This mirrors real-world civic processes and builds competences in dialogue, negotiation, and shared decision-making — skills at the heart of quality youth work. 3. To use creativity and art as tools for inclusion and empowerment. Artistic methods are among the most effective ways to engage young people who feel excluded from formal education or conventional participation. By using eco-art, visual storytelling, and collective creation, LumenSpaces opens spaces of expression for participants with fewer opportunities. Art becomes both a method and a message — enabling every participant to contribute regardless of language skills or academic background. 4. To foster intercultural dialogue and European belonging. Bringing together 36 young people from six countries — including EU member states and Western Balkan partners — creates a powerful setting for intercultural learning. Participants will discover different cultural approaches to sustainability, share local traditions, and build lasting friendships. This contributes to Youth Goal #3 (Inclusive Societies) and Youth Goal #10 (Sustainable Green Europe), as well as the EU Youth Strategy's core areas of Connect, Engage, and Empower. 5. To strengthen the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities. At least 18 of the 36 participants (50%) will face barriers related to economic disadvantage, geographic remoteness, social exclusion, minority background, or limited educational attainment. The project provides reinforced mentoring, tailored preparation, accessible non-formal methods, and a safe group environment — ensuring participation is not only open but genuinely equitable. 6. To build the capacity of youth organisations, particularly newcomers to Erasmus+. ART HUB Athens is currently implementing successfully its first Erasmus+ KA154 project and has two KA153 projects starting in the next month. It will further develop its coordination capacity with the support of experienced partners such as Ökográf (over 10 granted KA105 projects), CID (extensive KA1 partnership experience), and KREO Association (experienced in EU, UNDP, and Interreg-funded projects). This benefits the organisations beyond the project, enabling them to manage future European initiatives with confidence. By the end of the project we aim to: - Equip 36 young people with documented competences in sustainability, creativity, intercultural communication, and civic participation through Youthpass. - Create at least one visible eco-art intervention in a public green space in Athens, co-designed and built by participants. - Produce a digital eco-art booklet as a transferable resource for youth workers and educators across Europe. - Organise 5 local dissemination workshops (one per non-hosting partner country) to share the project's results with at least 250 additional young people and community members. - Strengthen the capacity of 6 organisations, including newcomers, to design inclusive and sustainable youth projects. LumenSpaces is rooted in youth work practice because it places young people at the centre of every decision, uses non-formal methods that are creative, inclusive, and experiential, and produces outcomes that are both personally transformative and visibly impactful in local communities.
