Objectives

Through this youth exchange we want to strengthen youth work practice in rural and peripheral contexts by proving that high-quality non-formal learning can be inclusive, place-based and impact-oriented. The project aims to create a learning environment where young people, including those facing economic and geographical barriers, can build practical competences for sustainable living, strengthen wellbeing and develop confidence to participate in community life. From a youth work perspective, the exchange is a structured process of empowerment: young people experience agency, practise cooperation, and leave with tools and motivation to act locally. The project objectives are to improve participants’ green competences through affordable, everyday sustainability practices connected to real community realities. We want young people to understand environmental challenges through direct experience and to translate this into realistic habit change and simple actions that can be adopted by peers. At the same time, we aim to strengthen physical and mental wellbeing as a foundation for participation, by embedding daily reflection, supportive group routines and stress-aware methods that help young people manage pressure and remain engaged over time. A third objective is to develop democratic participation competences in practice, enabling young people to identify local needs, collaborate across differences, communicate responsibly, and create micro-actions that mobilise others. In youth work terms, the exchange also aims to strengthen inclusion practice. We will demonstrate concrete measures that reduce barriers for young people with fewer opportunities, such as no participation fees, travel planning support, accessible logistics, wellbeing check-ins and safe group culture, ensuring that participation is meaningful and not symbolic. We also aim to strengthen intercultural learning and European belonging by building cooperation and friendship among young people from Greece, Romania, Italy and Latvia, and by creating a shared narrative of positive, achievable action. Finally, we want to leave reusable outcomes that support continued youth work beyond the mobility. Participants will co-create the Village Green Habits Toolkit and the Eco-Map of Filiates, and they will implement one follow-up micro-action per country. These results will allow partners and other youth groups to reuse tested methods, replicate community-based learning formats and continue engaging young people in sustainable, wellbeing-oriented and participatory practices after the project ends.
