Objectives

By implementing this Youth Exchange, we want to create a high-quality youth work experience that strengthens young people’s participation, voice and sense of agency, especially for those who face economic barriers and live in rural or remote areas. From a youth work practice perspective, our aim is to offer a safe and supportive non-formal learning environment where young people can express themselves, cooperate across cultures, and develop competences that are relevant for active citizenship and community life. We will use photography and message-making as practical youth work tools that help participants communicate ideas, reflect on social realities and contribute positively to public dialogue. A key objective is to improve young people’s ability to participate actively and responsibly in society. We want participants to experience what democratic participation looks like in practice: working in teams, making shared decisions, negotiating meaning, and presenting messages to the community in a respectful way. Through the creative process and the public exhibition, participants will practice how to turn opinions and experiences into constructive communication that invites dialogue and reduces stereotypes. Another objective is to strengthen intercultural learning and social cohesion. By bringing together young people from Greece, Latvia, North Macedonia and Ukraine, the project will develop competences for living and working in diversity, including empathy, openness, conflict-sensitive communication and cooperation. The residential setting and mixed-nationality teamwork will support deep learning based on real interaction, not only discussion. We also aim to improve media literacy and ethical communication skills through visual storytelling. Participants will learn how images and messages influence perceptions, how to avoid harmful stereotypes, and how to apply consent, privacy and responsibility when creating and sharing content. This is particularly important in a digital environment where misinformation and polarisation can easily spread. Inclusion is a practical objective as well as a principle. We want to make international learning accessible to young people with fewer opportunities by removing participation fees, supporting travel planning, providing an advance information pack, using a buddy system and ensuring accessible spaces and attention to dietary needs. We also aim to ensure that participants affected by instability, including those connected to the war context, can participate safely and with respect for personal boundaries and well-being. Finally, we want the project to create sustainable youth work value beyond the exchange. Our objectives include producing a public exhibition of printed photo messages in Filiates, creating an online gallery, and implementing one follow-up workshop in each partner country. These actions will transfer the method to other young people, strengthen local youth work practice, and encourage continued youth-led initiatives in rural communities.
