Through the implementation of this Youth Exchange, we aim to create a meaningful non-formal learning space where young people can critically and creatively engage with questions of identity, cultural heritage and belonging. From a youth work perspective, the project seeks not only to provide an intercultural experience, but to model a quality approach to participatory, reflective and inclusive youth practice grounded in lived experience. One of the primary objectives is to strengthen young people’s capacity for self-reflection and intercultural dialogue. Youth work practice emphasises the development of personal awareness as a foundation for active participation in society. By exploring cultural memory, unwritten social norms and embodied traditions, participants will be guided to examine how their identities are shaped and how they relate to others. The objective is not to deliver knowledge about cultures, but to create conditions where young people can question assumptions, articulate personal narratives and engage respectfully with different perspectives. A second objective is to promote active participation and shared ownership within a group process. In line with youth work principles, participants will be involved in co-creating parts of the programme, particularly the creative components and the final public cultural event. This approach reinforces democratic practice within the group, strengthens responsibility and encourages initiative. By contributing actively rather than consuming predefined content, participants experience youth work as a space of empowerment and collaboration. The project also aims to foster intercultural competence as a practical skill set within youth engagement. In contemporary European and Mediterranean contexts, young people increasingly encounter diversity in everyday life. Through structured role-play, movement-based learning and dialogue, participants will practice empathy, constructive communication and the ability to navigate difference without conflict. From a youth work perspective, this contributes to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence. Another important objective is to enhance creative expression as a tool for youth participation. Youth work often seeks to provide alternative channels for expression beyond formal education. By integrating movement, storytelling and collective creation, the project demonstrates how cultural expression can serve as a vehicle for dialogue and community engagement. The final public event will reflect this principle, allowing young people to express their reflections in an accessible and inclusive way. Finally, the project aims to reinforce the role of youth mobility as a transformative educational experience. Beyond travel and encounter, the exchange will offer structured reflection, recognition of learning outcomes and consolidation of competences. From a youth work practice perspective, this contributes to strengthening the educational dimension of Youth Exchanges and promoting high-quality non-formal learning environments. In summary, the project seeks to achieve personal growth, intercultural competence, participatory engagement and creative empowerment among young people, while modelling youth work practice that is reflective, inclusive and rooted in lived cultural experience.
