By implementing the project Roots of Learning, the main aim will be to strengthen the quality, relevance, and impact of youth work practice by supporting the professional development of youth workers through experiential, non-formal, and sustainability-oriented learning. The project will be designed to respond to current challenges faced by youth workers, particularly the need to address environmental sustainability, inclusion, well-being, and active citizenship in a practical and meaningful way. From the perspective of youth work practice, the project will aim to equip youth workers with concrete competences, methodologies, and tools that can be integrated into their daily work with young people. Rather than focusing on theoretical knowledge alone, the project will seek to enhance youth workers’ ability to design, facilitate, and reflect on non-formal learning activities that are engaging, inclusive, and connected to real-life contexts. This will contribute to more intentional, learner-centred, and reflective youth work practice. A key objective of the project will be to strengthen youth workers’ competences in experiential and community-based learning. Youth workers will be supported to understand how community spaces, nature-based environments, and everyday sustainable practices can function as effective non-formal learning settings. Through this approach, the project will encourage youth workers to expand the range of spaces and methods they use, making youth work more accessible, dynamic, and relevant to young people’s lives. Another central objective will be to enhance youth workers’ capacity to integrate sustainability, inclusion, and well-being as horizontal principles in their practice. The project will aim to support youth workers in addressing environmental responsibility alongside social inclusion and mental well-being, recognising these elements as interconnected aspects of quality youth work. This will contribute to the development of balanced approaches that promote active participation while respecting individual needs and group diversity. The project will also aim to strengthen reflective practice and learning recognition in youth work. By systematically integrating reflection methods and Youthpass-related processes, youth workers will be supported to better identify, articulate, and communicate learning outcomes. This objective will contribute to increased recognition of non-formal learning and to the professionalisation of youth work practice. Finally, Roots of Learning will aim to foster peer learning, cooperation, and innovation among youth workers from different European contexts. By creating a shared learning space for exchange of experiences and practices, the project will encourage youth workers to critically reflect on their roles, learn from one another, and develop new approaches that can respond to evolving needs in the youth field. Overall, the project will seek to contribute to youth work practice that is more reflective, sustainable, inclusive, and impactful, empowering youth workers to support young people more effectively and to strengthen the educational value of youth work at local, national, and European level.
