The Culinary Journeys for Peace – Youth Workers (CJ4P-YW) project aims to strengthen the capacity of youth workers across Europe to use food, culinary heritage and intercultural dialogue as practical tools for peacebuilding, social cohesion and inclusion in youth work. The project responds to a growing need within the youth sector for innovative, experiential and culturally grounded approaches to dialogue, conflict prevention and community building, particularly in increasingly diverse and polarised societies. The main objective of CJ4P-YW is to equip youth workers with concrete knowledge, skills and non-formal education methodologies that enable them to design and facilitate inclusive youth activities using food as a medium for dialogue, storytelling and mutual understanding. Through the project, youth workers will deepen their competences in intercultural learning, facilitation of safe spaces, participatory methods, and peace-oriented youth work, while strengthening their ability to engage young people from different cultural, social and migration backgrounds. The project will be implemented through a five-day Professional Development Activity in Thessaloniki, Greece, bringing together 36 youth workers, including at least 12 participants with fewer opportunities, from partner countries. The training programme will be based on experiential, learner-centred non-formal education methods, such as interactive workshops, culinary labs, storytelling, simulations, group work and structured reflection. By actively engaging in these methods, participants will acquire practical competences that can be directly transferred to their professional contexts and adapted to local youth work realities. A key output of CJ4P-YW will be the development of practice-oriented learning resources and methodologies, co-created during the training and further enriched through follow-up activities. These outputs will support youth workers in integrating culinary-based dialogue, intercultural learning and peacebuilding approaches into their ongoing youth programmes and community initiatives. In parallel, dissemination and networking activities will connect trained youth workers with relevant stakeholders, including youth organisations, community actors and cultural initiatives, fostering cooperation beyond the project partnership. Inclusion and diversity are core principles of CJ4P-YW. Partner organisations will actively involve youth workers who work with young people facing social, economic or cultural barriers, including migrants, refugees, young people from disadvantaged communities and rural areas. By strengthening the competences of youth workers supporting these groups, the project contributes to making peace education, intercultural dialogue and participation more accessible, inclusive and equitable. At impact level, CJ4P-YW aims to generate measurable and sustainable results. Participants are expected to demonstrate increased competences in intercultural facilitation and peace-oriented youth work, apply at least one newly acquired method in their local practice within six months, and act as multipliers within their organisations. At organisational level, partner organisations will integrate CJ4P-YW approaches into their youth work activities, while at European level the project will contribute to knowledge exchange and cooperation in the field of peacebuilding and intercultural youth work. Overall, Culinary Journeys for Peace – Youth Workers (CJ4P-YW) contributes directly to the Erasmus+ priorities of inclusion, participation and quality youth work. By empowering youth workers as facilitators of dialogue and understanding, the project supports young people in becoming active contributors to peaceful, inclusive and resilient communities across Europe.
