Through the project “Don’t worry, sit on the Mätäs 2.0”, we aim to strengthen young people’s mental well-being, resilience, and connection to nature through non-formal learning and intercultural exchange. From a youth work perspective, the project empowers rural young people to actively design, implement, and evaluate their own international mobility project, thereby strengthening their participation, initiative, and project management skills. The main objectives are to provide young people with practical tools to manage stress and anxiety, to increase their understanding of the link between nature and mental health, and to promote sustainable lifestyles and responsible consumption. The project also aims to foster intercultural understanding between Finnish and Belgian youth, strengthen European identity, and build long-term international networks among rural youth. By supporting young people in planning workshops, leading activities, and reflecting on their learning, the project enhances their self-confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and ability to influence their communities. Ultimately, we aim to encourage young people to see the future as an opportunity rather than a threat and to act as active, resilient citizens in their local and European contexts.
