Through the implementation of the I-PLAY Youth Exchange, we aim to empower young people to become active creators of educational tools, rather than passive beneficiaries of activities. From a youth work practice perspective, the project seeks to strengthen participation, autonomy and peer-to-peer learning through non-formal education. The main objective of I-PLAY is to enable young people from Guadeloupe, Portugal, Spain and Belgium to co-create intercultural educational games that promote dialogue, mutual understanding and European values in an engaging and accessible way. By working together in an international and intercultural environment, participants will explore cultural identities, similarities and differences, while learning to communicate across cultures and languages. A key objective of the project is to reinforce youth participation and empowerment. Young people are involved in all stages of the project: from the initial idea and concept development, to the organisation of activities, logistical preparation, creation of outputs, and dissemination of results. This approach strengthens their sense of responsibility, initiative and ownership, which are central principles of quality youth work. I-PLAY also aims to develop key competences through non-formal learning, including intercultural competences, communication in foreign languages (especially English), creativity, teamwork, digital and graphic skills, and basic project management. These competences are acquired through practical workshops, group work, experimentation, reflection and peer feedback. From a youth work perspective, the project places strong emphasis on inclusion and accessibility, particularly for young people with fewer opportunities due to geographical, economic or cultural barriers. By providing reinforced support, mentoring and a safe learning environment, I-PLAY ensures that all participants can fully engage and benefit from the exchange. Finally, the project seeks to strengthen the quality and impact of youth work practices within the partner organisations by developing transferable methodologies and concrete tools (intercultural games) that can be reused in schools, youth centres and future Erasmus+ activities. Through I-PLAY, youth work becomes a space for experimentation, creativity and active citizenship, with lasting effects beyond the project itself.
