FRANCO-ROMANIAN WAVES aims to build an original exchange between a group of young French people and a group of young Romanians united around common European values through a structuring activity: radio broadcasting. The objective is to build and reveal a shared culture between these two groups, which would be developed through motivating exchanges and learning experiences outside the formal education system. Mastering the practical skills of radio production will provide these young people with a genuine common language that will enable them to build initial bridges between them before the actual exchange takes place: by its very nature and history, radio is capable of transporting ideas ahead of people. That is why it will resolutely precede and naturally accompany all phases of the exchange. Young French and Romanian people will acquire technical, interpersonal and expressive skills that they can integrate into their personal development process and use in both formal and informal ways in their lives as citizens and in their future careers. As a tool for intercultural dialogue, radio will be a creative and reflective space throughout this project, both fun and technical, which will actively raise young people's awareness of important social issues: secularism, gender equality, social harmony, and to recognise similarities while intelligently and kindly embracing differences of a society, which is one of the pillars of the sense of belonging to Europe that this project seeks to strengthen among its young participants. In building their common culture, young people will be encouraged to become aware of the importance of diversity, as opposed to social stereotypes. Accompanied by qualified facilitators, these young Europeans will be able to develop enhanced communication skills, based on interaction with each other and the creation of real and authentic opportunities to exercise this fundamental civic act of any democratic society: speaking and listening, giving and receiving attention. Talking about their environment, their aspirations and their representations of the world, and respectfully comparing them with those of others in a spirit of mutual discovery, is the civic exercise that will be made possible by the very spirit of this mobility project, whose common thread is radio broadcasting. We are relying on the synergy between two French associations and one Romanian association. A study trip in October 2025 (funded by the Grand-Est Regional Council) enabled the French partners to meet their Romanian counterparts. In other words, the project participants know each other and have confirmed their desire to work together on shared values and a common project: the implementation of a youth exchange based on non-formal learning, European cooperation, and intercultural dialogue through the medium of radio broadcasting. We are aiming for the following operational objectives, in line with the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme: - strengthening European identity and active citizenship: enabling young people to gain practical experience of transnational cooperation. Working together on radio production, young people build a common culture beyond national borders, discover the social and cultural realities of the other country and experience the founding values of the European Union: respect, diversity, equality and solidarity. - Using radio as a tool for intercultural education: in youth work, radio is used as a tool for intercultural education, promoting expression, initiative, cooperation, listening and mutual understanding. It enables young people to compare their points of view, break down stereotypes and become aware of the richness of European cultural diversity. The topics covered (gender equality, secularism, social harmony, citizen participation) provide a basis for examining differences in national contexts while highlighting common issues at European level. - Developing key skills that are transferable to participants' personal and professional lives: the project aims to develop key transferable skills (communication, digital, social and intercultural skills) that are valuable in young people's personal and professional lives. By promoting expression, cooperation and collective engagement, FRANCO-ROMANIAN WAVES contributes to social cohesion, a stronger sense of belonging to Europe and the development of an active, aware and open-minded European youth.
