Objectives

The project "The Federation of the EU Planets: Participatory approaches to European citizenship through gamification" aims to strengthen the professional competences of youth workers to engage young people in meaningful, critical and accessible discussions about Europe, European citizenship and democratic participation, using gamified and participatory non-formal education methods. From a youth work perspective, the project seeks to address a recurring challenge, that is even more relevant in the current geopolitical situation worldwide that requires a reinforcement of European values among our communities: many young people feel distant from the European Union, perceive it as abstract or elitist, or lack the tools to understand how European decisions affect their everyday lives. Youth workers often struggle to approach these topics without reproducing institutional or overly technical narratives that do not resonate with young people. The core objective is therefore to equip youth workers with the capacity to “talk about the EU without talking about the EU”, by using metaphors, storytelling, games and experiential learning. By deepening their own understanding of Europe’s diversity, histories, values and tensions, youth workers will be better prepared to facilitate open dialogue, critical thinking and youth empowerment around European issues. This approach will not only promote European dialogue but will also enable youth workers to apply these methods in both local and international youth exchanges. Ultimately, the project aims to empower youth workers and their network beyond with tools that can positively impact young people in their understanding of Europe, its values, History and identit(ies), ultimately leading to making them more active and engaged as well as more open-minded and inclusive citizens.
