In rural and overseas island territories, young people represent a significant share of the population, yet they remain largely underrepresented in spaces for dialogue and decision-making. This underrepresentation is compounded by increased mental health vulnerabilities linked to geographical isolation, limited access to services, economic insecurity, social pressure and a lack of future prospects. These constraints affect young people’s well-being and limit their ability to engage, to plan ahead and to act for the development of their territories. The project aims to enable these young people to become active participants in European democratic dialogue. Its objectives are to strengthen their self-confidence and sense of agency, to empower them to express a collective voice, and to raise awareness among European decision-makers of the realities faced by rural and island youth through a European advocacy paper co-created and voted on by young people themselves.
