Objectives

The Sango Express project aims to transform European mobility into a lever for social inclusion and re-engagement for five 18-year-olds from priority neighborhoods in Perpignan. By implementing this rail journey, our organization seeks to break down the self-censorship and psychological barriers that hinder these young people facing severe educational or social dropout. The main goal is to provide them with a first experience of international autonomy, allowing them to shift from being spectators to becoming active participants in their own life paths. From a youth work perspective, this project pursues three fundamental pedagogical objectives: Development of transversal skills (soft skills): Through a pedagogy of travel, we aim for the acquisition of concrete skills such as budget management, spatial orientation, problem-solving, and intercultural communication. Learning occurs through action, outside institutional walls, to reconcile youth with their ability to learn and succeed. Strengthening confidence and empowerment: By directly involving participants in the co-construction of their itinerary and the daily management of the trip, we work on self-esteem. The project aims to transform their vision of the world and themselves, replacing the fear of the unknown with active curiosity and secure initiative-taking through proximity mentorship. Sustainable integration and civic engagement: The ultimate goal is to use mobility as a springboard. We intend for this experience to lead to concrete re-engagement in employment, training, or volunteering. By integrating participants into PSI’s network of engaged youth upon their return, we anchor the benefits of the journey for the long term, turning them into ambassadors for European citizenship within their own communities.
