Objectives

Association “Perpetuum” is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with more than a decade of experience in organizing, participating, and conducting activities within the Erasmus+ programme. As of 2025, a new generation of motivated young people has taken the lead, aiming to give "Perpetuum" a new lease of life and contribute to the local, regional, and international community. Our mission is centred on social inclusion and diversity, with a specific dedication to reaching out to youngsters with fewer opportunities, particularly those facing geographical obstacles in rural areas. We believe that empowering youth in isolated regions is essential for achieving the European goal of territorial cohesion, ensuring that no young person is left behind due to their place of residence. Regardless of the specific activity, we encourage youth to invest in their personal, social, and professional development through non-formal and informal learning, fostering an environment where growth is accessible to all. The necessity for this project emerged directly from a needs assessment within our local community in the Ribnik area. Our volunteers, while working on the physical and social "rebuilding" of our future youth venue, faced significant challenges. In this process of active participation, many young people experienced mental, emotional, and physical hardship. Open dialogues during these activities revealed a significant gap: a lack of resilience-building strategies in their daily lives and formal education. These young people expressed a clear need for a project focused on self-care and mental well-being, particularly as a response to the isolation and limited resources often felt in rural settings. This project is a direct response to that demand, aiming to transform motivated individuals into "initiative-takers" who can foster community development and act as resilient role models for their peers. Resilience is defined as the capacity to withstand and recover from difficulties, while self-care includes practices that maintain mental health and physical well-being. Current European data shows that over 40% of students report persistent sadness, highlighting a growing mental health crisis. However, research proves that individuals who undergo resilience structuring show a 25% increase in productivity and general well-being. Following the European Union Science Hub guidelines, we recognize that resilience is a "transversal skill" essential for navigating the complexities of the modern world. By addressing physical and mental health, this project directly supports the EU Youth Strategy (Engage, Connect, Empower) and the Erasmus+ priority of well-being in education. We aim to provide young people with a "toolkit" for life, enabling them to handle stress and burnout while remaining active and engaged citizens. Through our continuous communication with the youth in Ribnik, we have identified several critical needs that this application seeks to address. First, we must analyse how the modern "tempo of life" impacts mental health and develop strategies to mitigate stress. Second, we aim to reposition rural areas as environments conducive to mindfulness and connection with nature, rather than just places of limited opportunity. Third, we want to teach youth how to be their own "initiative creators," moving from passive recipients to active contributors to their own lives and communities. Furthermore, the project will focus on developing Key Competences, such as multilingualism, social and civic competences, and "learning to learn" in a diverse, non-formal environment. Equipping participants with these tools will allow them to return to their communities as "ambassadors of resilience," thereby fostering European identity and shared values. Finally, we aim to help participating organizations expand their capacity and strengthen their international cooperation networks. To address these needs, we have established the following objectives: O.1. To equip participants with specific skills, practices, and learning outcomes regarding the correlation between resilience, self-care, and quality of life in rural settings. O.2. To promote general awareness about the importance of resilience training and mental health as a powerful tool to help raise the quality of lives of youth. O.3. To encourage intercultural dialogue and solidarity between youth and organizations from various backgrounds, promoting inclusion and diversity as core strengths. O.4. To promote the opportunities of the Erasmus+ programme, its Key Competences, and its role in solving local community problems through European cooperation. By achieving these goals, we aim to create a lasting impact that transcends the duration of the project, sparking important changes in our national and European family.
